Quickfit band comparison and pics

So for those interested, I currently have the official garmin black silicon and leather (received today, yay!) bands and a chinese yellow/green one and thought I'd make some pics on how they look on the 935...

I actually really dig the quickfit bands, they all give the watch quite a different look. Solid black, sporty/summery/happy green/yellow and more serious leather. A chinese blue one is also on the way.

So far my impressions:

1. Chinese yellow sillicon:

The material is more flimsy. Think of wearing the official sillicon one for a few weeks after which it gets more flexible, the chinese is that + some more. I think it actually reminds me a bit of the stock non-quickfit 935 band, Surely decent enough for day to day wear and also for running and such. The clip is set with a pushpin instead of torx (same as with the nonquickfit stock one I heard?) so that construction might a but less solid. The strapholders also are a bit more loose, but the strap stays in fine though. Excellent value for money!

2. Official black silicon:

More rugged then the chinese one, a little bit too rugged/uncomfortable the first day but it loosens up quite a bit and I found it comfortable very fast. The clip is set with torx screws making it more stable I think. They are overpiced imo but I love the idea and straps.

3. Official leather one:

Looks good, very stiff though. Guess that will loosen up with a bit of time as well (and already wearing it 2 hrs makes me notice it less). Wouldn't use this for sporting, but surely for day to day wear. Overpiced imo again, but got a discount as I had to wait so long for it and had a coupon so got it half price instead which is more the proper value.

Conclusion:

Official ones ARE more rugged/decent but are overpriced. Proper pricing would be ~30 for the sillicon ones and ~50 for the leather I'd say. The chinese ones offer great value for money and I have no problem whatsoever using them for general sporting and daily wear... Perhaps going deep-see diving and such you might want to reconsider ;)

If you have any questions, shoot!
  • I have some 3rd party ones and I think they are the same
  • Can't speak for the Moko versions but I just received two new silicone straps from AliExpress today and I noticed that compared to the previous two the locking mechanism was now made of metallic material vs plastic previously and it's flatter. They keep getting better ;-) The clasp is unchanged and feels metallic too.

Would you please share the link to the item you purchased? I recently purchased one of these 3rd party bands but it comes with a plastic lock, which I definitely don't trust.
  • I swapped my black 935 for the one with the yellow strap in the tri pack. It looks a lot more 'sporty' and I like the subtle yellow accents on the bezel and start button which are unique to this model and match nicely with the strap. I'm glad I swapped as the buttons seem to click more on this one - perhaps it's because the first 935 was from a very early batch.

    Sorry had missed this.
Here's the link https://www.aliexpress.com/item/12colors-Soft-Silicone-Replacement-wristband-Watch-Band-bracelet-strap-for-Garmin-Fenix-3-Smart-Watch-26mm/32824968622.html (shows a plastic lock) but all the third party straps now seem to have that metal part and it sucks because it does not go back into place properly unless you push it in, somewhat defeating the purpose...might try to spray some silicone spray or some WD-40.

Anyone know where to find a third-party strap with a plastic lock ?
  • I have bought 3 of these:

And today I ordered another 2 I do not know if they are Chinese but it has a very good quality price, it is very difficult to release them (they come with thorx screwdriver)

  • That looks pretty nice indeed.

I use my knock-off "PU Leather" (looks the part but only a thin layer of actual layer on the inside) from time to time but it's mostly silicon these days. I'd originally gotten F3 straps that I trimmed and I didn't get the same colors in "Quick-Fit", but as you might have guessed I rarely bother to fit them on now so I might need to get these colors again...actually let me try to see how it goes ;-)

EDIT - well it wasn't that bad actually, about 2' overall. The problem is when you're in a hurry, it's easy to "miss screw" and have to start over.

EDIT2 - reading some feedback on your milanese strap, there are a lot of people with a Fenix complaining that the magnet is not strong enough to hold it properly. Maybe it's not a problem for the lighter FR935 ?
  • I’ve had the official Garmin brown leather QuickFit band used with my Fenix 5; bought back in May 17. Whilst I typically save it for smart work and casual wear (silicone only for activities) it is very well made and has stood the test of time. It is expensive though (I got it under RRP from Amazon). One thing I would say is don’t take the the leather bands in to the shower; they do absorb water and take a long time to dry out.

That Milanese band does look like it strikes the balance of looks, practicality and adjustability (important for wrist HR); but doesn’t the magnetic element mess up the compass on the watch?

I've seen those complaints to, no problem at all with the 935. The only time the magnet moves is when taking of a jacket or something really pushing it. It's stays in place very well in the day to day usage. The only thing is it's lenght. I've got small wrists and it fit's precisely, it shouldn't be any mm longer.

Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping for a "real life" picture of the black leather strap.

About the magnet, I never thought about it so tested it; by just releasing the magnet of the strap, the compass went all crazy. I needed to remove the strap completely to get correct compass values again. So if you regularly use the compass: don't get a milanees strap! Obviously I never use it so it doesn't bother me.

Edit; could the magnet break the compass or does it only mess up it's readings?

I don't know if the magnet would break the compass, but my concern would be if the magnet would affect sensors or the GPS.

hard to tell, I did use some GPS but not in workouts. When running I swap bands, this is my daily office band for now. That's also why I'm looking at leather bands, they look a little bit more classy
