Quickfit band comparison and pics

So for those interested, I currently have the official garmin black silicon and leather (received today, yay!) bands and a chinese yellow/green one and thought I'd make some pics on how they look on the 935...

I actually really dig the quickfit bands, they all give the watch quite a different look. Solid black, sporty/summery/happy green/yellow and more serious leather. A chinese blue one is also on the way.

So far my impressions:

1. Chinese yellow sillicon:

The material is more flimsy. Think of wearing the official sillicon one for a few weeks after which it gets more flexible, the chinese is that + some more. I think it actually reminds me a bit of the stock non-quickfit 935 band, Surely decent enough for day to day wear and also for running and such. The clip is set with a pushpin instead of torx (same as with the nonquickfit stock one I heard?) so that construction might a but less solid. The strapholders also are a bit more loose, but the strap stays in fine though. Excellent value for money!

2. Official black silicon:

More rugged then the chinese one, a little bit too rugged/uncomfortable the first day but it loosens up quite a bit and I found it comfortable very fast. The clip is set with torx screws making it more stable I think. They are overpiced imo but I love the idea and straps.

3. Official leather one:

Looks good, very stiff though. Guess that will loosen up with a bit of time as well (and already wearing it 2 hrs makes me notice it less). Wouldn't use this for sporting, but surely for day to day wear. Overpiced imo again, but got a discount as I had to wait so long for it and had a coupon so got it half price instead which is more the proper value.

Conclusion:

Official ones ARE more rugged/decent but are overpriced. Proper pricing would be ~30 for the sillicon ones and ~50 for the leather I'd say. The chinese ones offer great value for money and I have no problem whatsoever using them for general sporting and daily wear... Perhaps going deep-see diving and such you might want to reconsider ;)

If you have any questions, shoot!
  • I also noticed that with the QuickFit strap it doesn't get the sensor quite as close to your skin as with the standard. Even when tightened.

This is my experience too, and it impairs the functioning of the OHR, but it is highly beneficial when you're sensitive to developing irritation under the OHR sensor. I can't wear the FR935 with the original band for very long without developing a rash under the sensor area, but with the quickfit band, I can wear the watch all day, no issues. At night there is significant light leakage though, and the all-day HR contains gaps, but RHR seems to work well enough. Quite happy to have discovered this.
The watch band buckles on the different QF straps I bought were not great (either flimsy, or thick and digging into skin) and I replaced them with different kinds of 22mm watch band buckles from Ebay, some allow a better fit than others, it is worth experimenting with different buckles to get a QF band to fit exactly right.

  • Complete HR fail yesterday with my OEM QF strap, it was pretty tight though...

You wouldn't believe it, but this is my true favorite

    Looks pretty swe(dish)et, doesn't it?ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1263290.jpg
  • Quick question, does the official Garmin silicone strap have a metal clip like the leather band does? I got a supposed Garmin strap but was weary when I saw it was plastic.
  • Thanks phillipshambrook.

Guess there's some conflicting info.. Did some more digging..

This image shows the silicone straps being plastic. But... the kicker is the band I received and the ones in the picture, and also stated at the beginning of the thread all have the Torx screws holding it in. I think that may be the giveaway to the one I got being an official Garmin.
  • I have a Garmin one in my hand. If it is indeed plastic, it looks metal. FWIW, I would not trust my gazillion dollar watch with a 'knock-off' strap. Saving dollars and risk the chance of losing hundreds? Not a good equation in my books.

Here's a few comparison photos of the original vs the 2 most common knockoffs.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1268031.jpg
  • Thanks for the pics, that is exactly what I thought it would be. The clip on the original (black in this case on the photo) is or looks plastic, but the pin is thicker, and uses torx. Great to have these as extra evidence!
  • Tested original QF silicone band for couple of days and it looks that I have the same OHR reading problems as couple of other members. Namely the QF mechanism somehow lifts the watch a bit too far away from my skin regardless of how tight I put it. The OEM 935 band works perfectly for me.

Thus I wanted to ask to those who have tested original and some 3rd part (Moko or other Chinese) QF bands - how do they compare? I understand that non-original silicone bands are softer, but what about thickness / stiffness around the QF mechanism? Are 3rd party ones thinner, more elastic or just ~ the same as originals?
