Quickfit band comparison and pics

So for those interested, I currently have the official garmin black silicon and leather (received today, yay!) bands and a chinese yellow/green one and thought I'd make some pics on how they look on the 935...

I actually really dig the quickfit bands, they all give the watch quite a different look. Solid black, sporty/summery/happy green/yellow and more serious leather. A chinese blue one is also on the way.

So far my impressions:

1. Chinese yellow sillicon:

The material is more flimsy. Think of wearing the official sillicon one for a few weeks after which it gets more flexible, the chinese is that + some more. I think it actually reminds me a bit of the stock non-quickfit 935 band, Surely decent enough for day to day wear and also for running and such. The clip is set with a pushpin instead of torx (same as with the nonquickfit stock one I heard?) so that construction might a but less solid. The strapholders also are a bit more loose, but the strap stays in fine though. Excellent value for money!

2. Official black silicon:

More rugged then the chinese one, a little bit too rugged/uncomfortable the first day but it loosens up quite a bit and I found it comfortable very fast. The clip is set with torx screws making it more stable I think. They are overpiced imo but I love the idea and straps.

3. Official leather one:

Looks good, very stiff though. Guess that will loosen up with a bit of time as well (and already wearing it 2 hrs makes me notice it less). Wouldn't use this for sporting, but surely for day to day wear. Overpiced imo again, but got a discount as I had to wait so long for it and had a coupon so got it half price instead which is more the proper value.

Conclusion:

Official ones ARE more rugged/decent but are overpriced. Proper pricing would be ~30 for the sillicon ones and ~50 for the leather I'd say. The chinese ones offer great value for money and I have no problem whatsoever using them for general sporting and daily wear... Perhaps going deep-see diving and such you might want to reconsider ;)

If you have any questions, shoot!
  • You can use Quick Fit bands with out buying a Quick Release kit, they are different things. You do not need a Quick Fit install kit as the genuine QF bands come with 2 screwdrivers to take off the original band.

    Thanks!
  • I've just got myself a navy blue MoKo band from Amazon for ?11 (GBP), about 25% of the price of an official band. Generally I'd have gone with the official bands only but I've found that the original band with 935 seems to irritate my skin if I wear it for a number of days so I figured this one was worth a try.

The band itself clips onto the quickfit mechanism and came with 2 screwdrivers to remove the original. It's a little thicker than the original but looks and feels fine. Overall I'm not 100% sure I like the navy blue as I feel that having a black watch unit, with a blue band with a silver/aluminium buckle just looks a bit odd. I'll see how this one performs over the next couple of weeks and maybe get another colour if it's been ok

this is good info. i wasn't aware that Moku had released their own version. from my friend's luck with their bands on his Fenix 3, i think this is the third party band i will try out. it sounds worth the 12 buck gamble especially with the included torx drivers.

I have the exact navy blue Moku band; been wearing it for about two weeks or so. It's really nice quality! I tried uploading a picture, but as this new forum software seems to continue to want to be hot garbage, it's not letting me (I also have to log in every single time I visit the forum, which is super fun). The clasp is very high quality and easy to use, and the Quickfit mechanism is solid. Done probably about 10-13 runs with it, no issues at all. I wouldn't hesitate to spend the $12 to check it out yourself!

I have the Moko bands in black, blue and neon yellow. Of the brands I've tried, these appear to be the best quality. I'd purchase a few more if they offered other colors.
  • Had been using trimmed F3 straps so far and quite liked them with their 26mm width. I now have some cheap AE QF straps ($3 for Silicone and $8 for PU Leather) too and there is of course a lot to be said for their convenience! I also like the fact that they have a flat buckle as opposed to the F5's huge torx 5 screw based buckle.

The PU leather version is not bad but it doesn't clip on as safely as I found when I was trying to make it more supple.

Now the question is whether I should get the QF versions of the F3 colors I already have, hehe..
  • I tried the MoKo version in black and didn't really find too much differences to the cheap 6$ versions from AliExpress. However, I almost immediately sent the MoKo one back because 1 the black was very light so it didn't match the color of the watch (seemed more like a dark grey) and 2 it was a dust magnet par none, after only 3 hours of wearing it the band looked dirty and old.
The chinese knockoffs I've bought in black, red and white(!) rarely catch any dirt and have not given me any problems in the past 3 weeks I've had it. They have a black buckle, read somewhere that those are the "higher quality" knockoffs compared to the ones with a silver buckle, don't know if that's true but I'm very happy with mine.
  • I'm still unconvinced about these cheaper bands. I bought some replacements from AliBaba for my 920 and wasn't impressed. I nearly lost it on my second run with it when it came undone. Looking at it afterwards ti was clear that the 'tongue' in the clasp was not quite long enough to lock. I've bought the Garmin quick release band for the 935 and feel a lot more comfortable with it's security. I'd rather pay an extra $30 if it means my $600 watch is not going to fall of my wrist when swimming, running or cycling.
  • While I can understand what you mean I have done quite a few runs with one of these chinese bands and no issues so far. Perfectly comfortable with it... But I can imagine I'd be less inclined to use it for swimming.

Also, the quality control on these is not quite that great of course so the chances of having a dud are a lot higher. (And perhaps multiple manufacturers and not all of them being the same level).

True, the official ones ARE sturdier but meh...Here the difference in price is about 42 euros (which is 45-50 bucks i believe) which adds up quickly with 2-3 bands (not even talking about the prices of the metal band ;) )
