Showing HR on watch face?

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to show HR on the watch face home screen? I like to check my resting HR often but it would be nice to see this without having to go down through the widgets. I have been cycling through the various customisation options and it only seems to let you add steps climbed, calories burned, altitude, weekly mileage, and several other data fields, but no HR.

Is there a Connect IQ watch face that will let me do this?
  • Many CIQ watch faces show HR. Check out "Simple Heart" in the app store link in my sig for example. It uses 1hz for HR - while not quite real time, it updates quite often.

It's not the resting rate, but the current HR.

any idea on how often it updates? hard to implement? what is the hit on battery relative to implementing 1hz update of seconds?

HR updates on the screen every few seconds. The battery hit to do this is basicly nothing (I still have to work within the contraints of what 1hz can do). I'm not doing anything with the HRM itself.

thanks for the speedy response, Jim. it makes sense that it wouldn't hit the battery since only a small portion of the screen needs to be updated. is it a different "call" to get this data to the screen? i seem to recall (maybe incorrectly) that in a conversation i had with you several weeks ago that the standard data put to the screen (prior to 2.3.1) was the last data point shown in the HR widget (i.e., once every 1-2min).

i'm not a developer (i do code for my work, but in a very different vain), but i'm asking since i worked with Jan on designing Big and Lean and would love to see a more frequent HR update on that face. it makes the data much more meaningful and useful.

thanks for sharing any tips and wisdom.
  • This is probably the first WF in the app store that uses 1hz for more than just seconds. It's not a different call to get it, but something extra (which, BTW, doesn't work on the f5x right now - not a bug in the FW or in the WF - just a difference due to the HW architecture. On it, it's sill every 1-2 minutes )

i do think you are right: yours is the first. IMHO, i think the 1hz applied to the HR is more regularly valuable than the seconds themselves. but i'm sure others would disagree ;)
  • I like the seconds. Simple Heart does both. :) (BTW, it also does steps, but those only change a couple times a minute)
