Third party quick-connect bands

Well, it was a matter of time but here they are...

http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Replacement-Silicagel-Fast-Install-Band-Watch-Strap-For-Garmin-Fenix-5-GPS-Watch-/201935426415?var=&hash=item2f044a136f:m:mCIkDLhdVYOlP22GiET-aOw

I ordered 2 to give them a try (blue and yellow). After ordering the official black and leather one (which still isn't delivered) I couldn't make myself spend another 100 euros for another 2.

10 euros is more like it (***, if the official ones were around 30 it would already be less of an issue). Anyway, just in case anyone wants to give it a shot ;)
  • Can't say I notice anything about that... But from what I can remember the fenix5 I had was just fine with its quickfit band and same goes for the FR935 wiht both an original garmin and the chinese band...
  • Must be me then, anyway I'm pretty happy with my trimmed F3 straps ;-)
  • One question: is the strap safe in the holder? I am asking as I bought for my previous F3 replacement straps and the issue was, that the strap holder was not well constructed and the strap always went out of the holder.

Less then the original garmin bands, these chinese bands are more flimsy. They strap stays in fine btw, but it's much easier to get out compared to the garmin strap. But it does have the small extension on the 2nd holder which seems to keep it in place fine.

After taking a second look at the clip (the one attached with pushpins instead of torx screws), I can imagine this failing under large pressure. It seems to have a bit more play and is just less rugged/fixed (not sure of the proper english word). Perfectly fine for day to day use imo, and prolly also for general sporting (where you have to wear the watch tighter for proper OHR) but it IS less strong then the Garmin one. Also have to see how it holds over time...

Then again, I can actually get these. Just got notice that the official leather strap has been postponed for atleast another 2 weeks. *sigh* Let's see if I can get it within 2 months after ordering...
  • And after getting told yesterday Garmin still hasn't delivered and the latest update was that I'd have to wait till half of july I suddenly got a mail last evening that a package was on the way... Could it?

And yup! Just got my leather band delivered...

First impression, looks decent but it is VERY stiff. Needs to loosen up a bit because it's a bit uncomfortable atm ;) I think I like it though hehe, gives the watch another look again. Is it worth 80 euros, nope. But I had a coupon and got a small discount because I had to wait so long so I paid about half for it which is about what I'd wanna pay for it (ok, I can imagine this one being 50 and the silicon ones being about 30).

Ah well, happy that it's in and that the waiting game is over... I'll have to see how it feels and loosens up the coming days but I think I'll be keeping it.
  • Are you discussing the "quickfit" 3rd party wristbands? If so, can you confirm if the lock itself is made out of plastic or metal?

I recently bought a 3rd party quickfit band, but it comes with a plastic lock and I wouldn't even dare to take a walk with it attached to my watch, so using it while doing sports is out of the equation.
