Garmin 935 display and battery life

Hi

Can you please tell me if the screen on the Garmin Forerunner 935 has the same contrast/visibility during the day as Garmin 230? I know that the Garmin 230 is dim at certain angles, and the colors are not so vivid as I understood. If the screen of 935 is better, than I would buy this. I am undecided between these two watches, because 230 has a better battery life (5 weeks in watch mode), comparing to 2 weeks of 935

Thanks in advance
  • Eh, I assume so... I don't own the FR230 so can't compare directly but compared to my 735xt I think it's mainly improved resolution + backligt (and more colors).

Can check tonight when I'm home again how it compares, but don't think there's any (major) improvement in that area... For me it's all just fine btw, no issues at all.
  • IMHO the 935 screen has a "better" screen than a 230 (and a 735 which is very similar).

Battery life in watch mode is somewhat of an irrelevance IMHO until you are planning on buying it only to check the time of day for weeks on end? Logically it will be higher on a 230 as that does not have OHR.

Battery life with GPS on is definitely better with a 935 however which is the "important" thing in a GPS watch....

I came from the 230 and I would argue it's better and at the very least no worse. The fonts make it easier to read for me and I've never had a problem seeing the watch in daylight and even around dusk it's still highly readable.

Regarding the battery, With 6-8 hours of training a week I usually got through about 6-8 days with my 230; With the 935 I'm getting about 8-10 with the same number of training hours AND it gives you the 24/7 HR (which the 230 doesn't) so I don't think you'll notice a huge shift in battery life to be honest.

    Thanks for you replies
My concern regarding the battery life was because I understood from asking Garmin directly, that "Rechargeable battery life is typically defined as the number of full charge-discharge cycles before significant capacity loss", so the life of the watch that has a better battery is best
I guess you are right, if I turn off the HRM which probably I really will not use, the battery life will be the same. The only thing I like most in 230, is that is significantly thinner on the wrist
  • No real need to turn off the OHR unless you are planning on spending a very long time away from a charger. It is optimised for "low power" after all.

935 is a bit bigger than a 230 can't honestly say have noticed much difference actually wearing it.

That is true, but usually these batteries have a cycle life in the hundreds, meaning that it would take AT LEAST 2-3 years (assuming you have to charge once a week) before you even got to the point where the battery was at 80% of it's original capacity (In the case of the 935, lasting 11 days instead of 14, which is still very good). This is a much more prevalent issue with something like a laptop, which might need to be recharged every day or few days (not every week/two weeks). I wouldn't be too worried about the battery in the long term (even with 24/7 HR on) with the 935 is basically what I'm trying to say :)

Can you please tell me if you had problem with 230 regarding daylight readability on daylight and dusk? I run only 1-2 times a week, thats why I lean towards 230, but I dont know about the screen

    Thanks
