Button fell off one day after purchase

One day after purchase I noticed that the "down" button won't work. Upon a closer inspection it appeared that it physically popped out half-way (see photos attached) and was misaligned (arrow not pointing strictly downwards) and if you gently pull it, it will come out completely.

That's one day after the purchase, without any bumps and much activity. Box came sealed, so completely new unit.

In general, build quality kinda sucks. Glass screen was not properly centered - upper and right sides have approx one millimeter gap. Not really noticeable but is there if you know where to look. I wonder if they will get filled with dirt over time. Maybe this is just a faulty unit, but cmon, for usd 500 watch this is not acceptable.

Having switched from fenix 5 - due to minuscule bluetooth range and poor gps signal - I feel like I made the wrong move.

I will yet have to see what Garmin reps will say about this. Sadly, I bought unit from a third-party reseller, not authorized, I believe, but still these come with usual international warranty, like Apple devices, right?

  • Bizarre. Contact your reseller. No issues with mine.

Not the rule for 935. Your 935 is the exception.

But the F5 buttons feel like more quality. Of course it's only just the feeling. The inside mechanism may be the same.
There are alway pros&cons.... If you want to go for a lightweight watch you have to think of lightweight material.
  • You seem to have been very unlucky there as nobody else has reported a button popping out.

What do you mean a non authorised reseller? Authorised by who for what?

Certainly if I bought something where I am in the UK that was faulty out of the box, I would seek a replacement from the reseller in the first instance.

Yeah, the problem is that I bought it from an individual seller online... smth like local Graigslist - so dont have any receipt really. This was kinda dumb (I realize this now in retrospective).

Was chatting with garmin support yesterday - only US guys were online and told me that I have to get in touch with UK. But whenever I try to find any UK support contacts, I am redirected to global (US) site.

And the thing is, it was not faulty OOB - I opened the seal in presence of seller and tested it. Everything was fine.

Is this what you are looking for? But sounds like bad luck, this is the first time I hear of such a thing... Hopefully Garmin can help you out here.

Thanks a lot, mate. I sure hope this will be resolved.

I have found this address as well, but I am outside of UK and international calls via my mobile carrier are ridiculously expensive, not to mention connection quality makes long range conversation a nightmare :). I was looking for a way to contact support via email or in chat (option US garmin has). But they are closed now, maybe I will try my luck on workdays.

    good buy 935

Just for fun: below is my conversation with support (Luca)

TL;DR - watch is useless now and not repairable. We wont help you, kinda sorry

Luca: Where did you purchase the device from and how long ago?

Alexey: I bought it in US, but not from the official store, from a person via online add - so unfortunately dont have a receipt :( So basically that's the problem. Also, I am not in US now (in Ukraine), so tried to contact our local Garmin rep to sort things out. Official service center said they dont repair these devices, only return... which is knda impossible in my case

Alexey: I registered the watch last ThursdayAlexey: button fell off a day later - without any particular useAlexey: I was told I have to contact Garmin UK, but whenever I go to their site, I am redirected here

Alexey: This is how the button problem looks, if this will help https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?376066-Button-fell-off-one-day-after-purchase

Luca: Unfortunately the device will need to be replaced via your local Garmin retailer. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

Alexey: Which is kinda impossible without receipt, and unit is not reparable -> so trash can basically

Alexey: I am okay with repairing this at my expense and sending it overseas... I was hoping that Garmin had international warranty akin to what Apple offers for their devices

Luca: Garmin would need a proof of purchase to show it was purchased from a retailer. Online Auction Purchases: Products purchased through online auctions are not eligible for rebates or other special offers from Garmin warranty coverage. Online auction confirmations are not accepted for warranty verification. To obtain warranty service, an original or copy of the sales receipt from the original retailer is required. Garmin will not replace missing components from any package purchased through an online auction. Please see the warranty below: https://www.garmin.com/support/warranty.html

Alexey: Yes, I saw that too. What I am kinda surprized about is that the unit is not repairable, even if official service centers

Alexey: so assuming you lost your receipt and unit malfunctions, it is rendered useless. That's something I wont expect from any company

Luca: Unfortunately due to the warranty terms, we will need the original receipt of sale to cover this under the warranty. I would still recommend organising a replacement device via your local Garmin distributor. I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.
  • I can see it from Garmin's point of view.

In the general scheme of things you "find" a Garmin watch "by chance" then hope they will treat it as if you bought it legitimately.

This purchase sounds strange to me. Surely normally in online transactions you usually get something like an email to demonstrate that you have actually paid some money to somebody for something? If you "lost" this any reputable reseller should surely be able to provide a replacement.

Perhaps then a warning if you go down this sort of route (perhaps in the hope of saving some money?) there is a risk in so doing if something goes wrong.
  • That sucks, though I do get where they are coming from you would hope they could strike over their hearts in these cases... But yeah, this is the reason why I always ask for presence of a receipt when buying something which still has warranty (and especially a product as new as this).

But hmmm, can you press the button using a pencil still for example? (Is the contact inside still functional?). The F5 could be fixed by yourself relatively easy but no clue how the 935 should be opened in the first place without the screws.

Wouldn't bin it just yet, hopefully there is some workaround or way to get the button in again...

Mass produced electronic items; some of them will have faults, pretty inevitable. Not seen many people (or anyone else for that matter) with this problem so seems like it's quite a rare case.

    Needs returning for a replacement.
