Hiking app

Hi,

Does the FR 935 has a garmin default hiking app included ? If so, what fields are used (by default) in this mode.

Best regards

  • It is certainly there to be added to your set of apps if you want to.

Hopefully somebody who has used it can advise on what you get. You will of course be able to change them or are you looking to return back to the defaults?

yes, but unfortunately, i already changed mine so i can't tell you much about the defaults are...but it is, like all the other activities, very customizable.

i believe, it came with either 1-2 pages of data (i have 2, but i am not sure if i added one), a time page, a map page, a elevation gained/speed page, a HR page.

again, you can add more pages and customize them to your heart's content to include different altimeter parameters, speed/pace parameters, HR parameters, etc.

i've also enjoyed using Jim's Hike2 app. for places i don't know well, that produces a nice breadcrumb trail and the ability to make waypoints.
  • Thank's for the answers,

I was a little be confused because I am hesitating a lot between the FR935 and the Fenix 5. My main activity is hiking. I also use my actual watch (FR230) for running and cycling also. Any comment on which one is the best for hiking. For me "fashion" is not an important point.

  • Question is whether you also want the maps that the 5X brings. Otherwise the functionality of the 5 and 5S is almost exactly the same as the 935.

I am sure any of them would work well for hiking. Big advantage for me as a runner who also cycles is that the 935 is lighter on my wrist.
  • I too am recently mainly into hiking and originally I have bought F5 as an outdoor hiking watch. Because of GPS performance not up to my expectations, I have returned it and bought FR 935. And I can't be happier. The watch is feature-wise identical to F5, has WiFi in base model and GPS performs great on my tracks. Only thing I could be potentially disappointed with is if the feature set splits over time and F5 starts getting updates and new features and FR 935 doesn't.
  • Thank's alot for these comments. I will go for a FR935 as soon as it is available on the Garmin european online shop.

Yeah, hiking 'activity' that is... Fields/screens used (haven't changed anything):

    Screen 1: Timer and distance
Screen 2: Total elevation and speed
    Screen 3: Heartrate
    Screen 4: Map/course
    Screen 5: Clock

And gps is quite a bit better (especially when walking/hiking) compared to the Fenix5 for me. I sent the latter back in favor of the 935.

The 5x has the extra benefit of real maps, so that might be worth a thought but featurewise there's not much different between the F5 and 935... (F5 is a nicer watch to look at though and feels more substantial).
  • Thank you. I am not at all interested by the fenix 5x because:

    1-The smaller battery life
    2-The size
    3-The weight
