nato strap for the 935

Just in case someone else is curious, I was so I just tried ;-)

Note: had to cut a hole for the HR sensor. Works fine though!
  • nice! thanks for sharing. was it hard to cut the hole well? exacto blade? i wonder if you may end up with a better or worse seal from light using the nato band vs the standard band.
  • Cutting was easy. Used a razor blade/exacto (fresh blade). Took about 1 minute. Just position the strap first on your wrist to make sure the hole will match up, draw limits with a sharpie, remove strap, cut (the actual cut is like 10s, did not even need a ruler or anything).
After that you'll want to seal the nylon mesh with a lighter of course.

I'm not sure about the seal of light either, and my skin is as transparent as it gets - but i could notice no difference so far.

I do like the band look and that it makes the watch look a little smaller somehow
  • Nato

There are 2 pc nato straps out there that work fine. I got mine from Clockworksynergy for bith my F3 and 935.. $11.95 each. Look and work great.
  • Might not be an issue now, but that hole is decreased the width in that section by 60%. Aren't you worried about the integrity of the strap?
  • Doh this forum software is so bad. had to retype this 3 times because it loses the post and refuse picture pasting sometimes.

    Anyway! 4th time the charm:

    - NATO bands need to go under the watch, its why they're NATO bands. This ensure the watch stays on in the event of a retainer failure, specially useful for diving/swiming
    - I tested the HR sensor some more with a control sensor in addition to it and found its not always as accurate as it should be UNLESS i over tighten it. Meaning my mod is not as good as I'd like.
    - The nylon is very strong as long as it does not fray so would have zero concern, since i seal it well and its good quality nylon (be careful with cheap Nato bands btw)
    - The bands from the post above are not actually NATO since they do not go under the watch. That said they're still nice looking, which is what most of us probably care about.. lol.
    - I modified mine to be similar due to the HR issues - and sewed it differently. I kept the extra Nato strap so that it goes against the wrist, and protects it from the sewed points as these can be itchy when the band moves, and I'm actually really happy with that one idea - super comfy. Sadly it's no longer a real Nato strap and will not survive a retainer failure. Oh well.

    New pics ensue...
