935 HRV Stres test score = 1

Hi All,

Only had my 935 for a few days and still playing with all the new features.

Yesterday and today I have performed the HRV Stress test in the morning while standing for 3 minutes and using my red HRM-4 strap. Both days, the results come back as 1. The HRM4 is paired properly with the 935. I am in a fairly heavy training cycle right now and I am pretty sure it should be a lot more than 1.

Has any one else tried this test yet? If so, what have your results been like?

Thanks
  • The cynic in me says that this is another metric that Garmin has thrown in to the mix to further confuse and confound. Probably little more than a jazzed up version of the 'Time to Recover' currently on the 920.

If the stress test is looking at HRV then it's likely to be doing nothing more than looking at the R-R interval. Simply put, the less variation in the R-R interval (the difference in the timing of each heart beat), the more stressed your body is. Just because you are into a heavy cycle of training doesn't necessarily mean that you are are overstressed (over trained). You may well need to be doing a lot more heavy and hard training to get to see a noticeable change. If your training program is a good one, then you shouldn't be expecting significant swings in any metric seeking to report on fatigue. The idea behind any program is that you stretch, but then allow sufficient time to recover before the next session in any micro or macro cycle.

It will be interesting to see what other are reporting.
  • Mine is also 1, and I'm not training real hard. 370 minutes of activity in April so far... mix of running, biking and weights.

    I'll let Garmin explain:

    Cheers :)

So it's something you can do as often as you like to get a comparison of your "stress" levels.

I'll have a bash at it and see how it works :)

One of the best heart rate variability apps I've seen is HRV4Training. See their blog for lots of information on the subject: http://www.hrv4training.com/blog

IMO Garmin's Stress Score feature is very simplistic, and as implemented, is about as useful as a mood ring.

To me for three days it gives me value = 1. first for two days instead he gave me perhaps normal values: 19 and 38.
    Used with Wahoo TICKR band.

Tried it and got a score of 20.
  • This has been around on a few devices now for at a least year so nothing new. When I tried I did also get a 1.

If you are "stressed" that you are not apparently stressed then maybe try again :)
  • Same thing this morning, HRV Score = 1. I tried it with my slightly older HRM-RUN and got the same result.

I use Emfit QS to track my HRV and recovery but I was interested in seeing how Garmin's implementation of HRV stress score aligning with Emfit QS.

It appears that there are bugs with Garmin HRV Stress test score.
