Alarm set on watch gets overwritten and deleted by Garmin Connect!

i hope i'm not breaking any etiquette by forking a prior thread discussing alarm issues that were originally hypothesized to be related to "Do not disturb."

here's the issue: if i set an alarm on my watch (a "one and done" (not repeating) alarm), this alarm often gets deleted from my watch if it syncs itself with Garmin Connect. as you might imagine this is problematic as i didn't get woken when i should have the first morning after using the watch.

i have been going back and forth with Garmin support using email this past week. (very slow, and they are closed today for the Easter weekend, else i was going to try phone support) i have tried all their suggestions including erasing some settings files from the watch, but the problem still exists.

it seems this is really an engineering issue, but i am hoping:

1. a few of you are willing to confirm that this is a universal problem: set an alarm on your watch to occur in the next 24 hours, and then go to Garmin Connect and manually sync with your watch (this accelerates the test and also insures that a full sync is done). does that alarm disappear when you go back to look at the alarms set on your watch?

2. Someone on the Garmin support team like Joseph sees this and can pass it on to the relevant parties. to me, this is glaring bug/engineering oversight. Alarm setting should not depend on whatever is set in Garmin Connect, nor should GC be allowed to overwrite/delete alarm settings recently set on the watch.

finally: a related and annoying bug -- if i do the sync process discussed above, it will sometimes duplicate my repeated alarms set in GC. right now i have 3 occurrences of the same alarm times/days on my watch although there is only one occurrence in GC.

clearly there are some issues with how GC and the watch are interacting with respect to how alarms work...

thanks everyone!
  • GC overrides any setting in...backlight made directly on the watch

Not seen this one before. Would you be a bit more explicit? Unless I've missed it there isn't a setting on GC on the interweb GC mobile for the backlight so unlikely that the setting has been overwritten.

I have the same experience as most others on this thread have. I sent an email as well.

Has there been any response or indication from Garmin that they realize this is an issue?

Not in this forum, if I remember right. I have open a ticket and asked via email and they confirmed that they are working on this bug. I think this was in June or July.
  • I guess it’s really the whole Garmin Connect syncing mechanism that needs updating to fit this so I’m guess it might take them a while!
  • As said, the easiest "fix" would be to switch off the alarm settings in GCM and GC and let the watch be the single point of truth. Who needs an app or web interface to manage clock alarms?

Then fix this whole flawed configuration synchronization mechanism.
  • Just got a note from Garmin Support concerning ticket 1364477: "Thank you for your patience on the recent investigations into the troubles you have had with the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
I am happy to report that there has been an update released 3.22.4 to the app."

Unfortunately, the bug is still there. Reproduced it with my Forerunner 935 Firmware 6.0 and iOS GCM 3.22.4.1.

    1) Created an alarm on the watch
    2) Forced a sync from GCM -> alarm is there
    3) Forced a sync from the watch -> alarm is gone
  • I just downloaded and installed GCM Android 4.0.5 and tried turning off an existing alarm on the watch and then forced a sync from GCM Android. It was turned back on.
  • I received communication from Garmin support on this issue. They requested me to send logs and perform several things like resetting. I denied as this makes absolutely no sense and the problem can easily be reproduced on Garmin side. No particular issue with MY watch or MY GCM. I also send them links on various threads in this forum (935 and F5).

Response from Garmin: "I haven't heard of any other reports of this issue, which is why we need to create the case."

My response: "Please close the ticket and file a complaint for me or alternatively send me the address where I can complain. Thanks.".

  • On a related issue, the backlight setting for the alarm is not available on Garmin Connect or Garmin Connect Mobile.

For example, I have an alarm set for 6:15 each weekday. I found there was a backlight setting on the watch. If I set the backlight to come on using the settings on the watch, the next time I sync it is turned off.
  • At least the problem is now confirmed by Garmin. Hope "near future" means before end of life of the 935 ;-)
