Alarm set on watch gets overwritten and deleted by Garmin Connect!

i hope i'm not breaking any etiquette by forking a prior thread discussing alarm issues that were originally hypothesized to be related to "Do not disturb."

here's the issue: if i set an alarm on my watch (a "one and done" (not repeating) alarm), this alarm often gets deleted from my watch if it syncs itself with Garmin Connect. as you might imagine this is problematic as i didn't get woken when i should have the first morning after using the watch.

i have been going back and forth with Garmin support using email this past week. (very slow, and they are closed today for the Easter weekend, else i was going to try phone support) i have tried all their suggestions including erasing some settings files from the watch, but the problem still exists.

it seems this is really an engineering issue, but i am hoping:

1. a few of you are willing to confirm that this is a universal problem: set an alarm on your watch to occur in the next 24 hours, and then go to Garmin Connect and manually sync with your watch (this accelerates the test and also insures that a full sync is done). does that alarm disappear when you go back to look at the alarms set on your watch?

2. Someone on the Garmin support team like Joseph sees this and can pass it on to the relevant parties. to me, this is glaring bug/engineering oversight. Alarm setting should not depend on whatever is set in Garmin Connect, nor should GC be allowed to overwrite/delete alarm settings recently set on the watch.

finally: a related and annoying bug -- if i do the sync process discussed above, it will sometimes duplicate my repeated alarms set in GC. right now i have 3 occurrences of the same alarm times/days on my watch although there is only one occurrence in GC.

clearly there are some issues with how GC and the watch are interacting with respect to how alarms work...

thanks everyone!
  • Got my FR935 last week, I'm really loving it thus far minus the "Alarm bug" - I was going to start a new post but found this one. I'm having the same issues mentioned here running v6.00 I rely on the alarm feature!! C'Mon Garmin!!! Edit: Changed the "Backlight" to ON for my daily wake up alarm via the watch this morning (not an option from GC). Just checked, the backlight is now switched off. Alarm settings do not stay on the watch once set !! GRRR
  • Isn't anyone else bothered by this pronounced bug?
  • Sure. A lot of people are bothered by this problem.
    Please open a ticket.
  • Bothered, yes. But this has been going on months and being bothered isn?t going to make garmin do anything about it. They can?t even get their forum software login to work properly.
  • I propose to reach out at Garmin via Twitter, Facebook and email. I did.

We could also organize a petition (together with the F5 folks) or something similar. I remember well that this worked for getting the footpod feature to F3.

I will open a ticket. Perhaps enough "tickets" will help to move the ball along, at least we'll try.
  • Same problem here: alarm and backlight settings canceled at every sync. Sad to see that this thread was started in april ... 6 months ago and Garmin did not fix it
  • I agree, opening a ticket is the only solution. If Garmin gets enough tickets on this issue, they should be motivated to do something about it.

I noticed that my alarms only get deleted if I trigger the sync from the watch. As long as I start synchronisation from the Garmin Connect Mobile app the alarm stays on the watch. Is that just me?

I reckon you will find any alarm which has been set from/on the watch will be deleted when it syncs with connect. If you set the alarm on connect, then it works fine. But, the watch was designed to allow the alarm to be set on it. Why would it have all the various alarm options and tags for the alarm if it wasn't. Whilst on the subject, I don't see the point of being able to tag an alarm as a 'wake up' or 'reminder' etc... where would one see this tag. Or am I being stupid and missing something obvious.
  • Same issue here. GC overrides any setting in alarm and backlight made directly on the watch. I sent an email to Garmin support. Is this the way to open a ticket or is there another system for that.
