It logs heart rate variability in the fit file. It isn't used by Garmin (HRV is but you don't need to enable the setting to get those metrics) but it allows third parties to deliver metrics based on it.
That's to log HRV during activities so it can be analysed later (for instance by Firstbeat). Requires a chest strap (optical is not accurate enough to measure HRV). It will increase the size of your .FIT files considerably and slightly increase battery drain.
As for the original question, I had activated this setting on my F5 (now returned) but found no evidence of HRV being logged in the .fit file. Maybe it's been fixed with v2.90.

Yes, HRM-Run and got run dynamics for that run so no possible confusion with the oHR. Like I said that was with v2.40 so maybe it's been fixed since, current users of the F5/FR935 should be able to verify this easily ;-)
