Alarm doesn't sound when in 'Do not Disturb'?

I have set my alarm a couple of times, with just the vibrate option set - so that it would wake me without making lots of noise. Unfortunately I thought that I slept through the alarm the first time, and then wondered when it happened on the next occasion. I checked the alarm and sure enough it did a good job at vibrating at the correct time, during the day.

Then it struck me - I have my automatic 'Do not Disturb' times set from 11 pm until 8:00 am - I really do not want emails to alert me during the night. But it seems that 'Do not Disturb' includes silencing alarms - which is pretty silly.

I don't think I am doing anything incorrect, and I don't think that I have missed a setting - but if I have, I would love to know.

Otherwise, I would love Garmin to fix this quickly. My Vivosmart HR+ did the right thing and silenced email alerts but sounded alarms during 'Do not Disturb' hours.
  • I haven't had to use the alarms yet but I just did a test of mine and it worked fine. I turned my Do Not Disturb on for the test. I set the test alarm for just vibrate and then I did it again with vibrate and tone, and both alarms worked with Do Not Disturb turned on.
  • i've run into a problem with how Garmin Connect and the Watch interact in this regard.

if i set an alarm on the watch (a one time alarm) and sometime before the alarm would have occurred, Garmin Connect on my phone syncs with the watch, that alarm setting is erased (!)

i've checked this out a couple of times...it continues to puzzle me how they have made Garmin Connect take precedence over what is set on the watch (the other case was setting notifications to be either "none", "calls only," or "show all." it seems that GC takes precedence in general. not the way i would want things to be since i interact more in general with the watch than GC. who wants to go into GC to set an alarm?

    That's the answer!

    Hi!

Thanks - you have identified the problem perfectly. I was misled into thinking it was the 'Do not Disturb' setting, but that was wrong. The sync between GC and the watch needs some attention - surely it ought to be based on time! The last thing set in time should take precedence - that is what sync should do in my book.

Thanks for your reply - it has helped me from not going crazy!

And please Garmin, is there any chance this will be addressed as a basic implementation issue?

you're welcome. i hope i'm not breaking protocol or etiquette, but i'm going to start a new thread that directly specifies this issue. i've been exchanging (rather slowly) by email with tech support and i've tried everything they have suggested include ding erasing settings files, but that has not solved the problem.

i agree with your suggested precedence being based on "time." that's the way cloud based file systems work. no device/mechanism is the mother ship. i could imagine Garmin will argue some things should be controlled by Garmin Connect, but certainly for an alarm setting, all "devices" should remember the most recent setting. it's sad that my $500 watch can't do what my basic digital watch could do in the 1980s, wake me up when i ask it to.
