Is there a way to how much time I spend running compared to walking during a running activity?

I'm running based on heart rate so I am running for a bit until my heart rate gets too high and then walking for a bit until it gets low again. Is there any way to track the amount of time spent running vs walking to see if overall I end up increasing time running? I was thinking something like "time in zone", but more like "time in cadence" or something? Maybe an app or some other way? Thanks for any ideas!

After you have downloaded the run you can look at the pace chart in Connect or Connect Mobile.  On the left will be your pace (you'll see the difference between running and walking) and on the bottom will be the time table.  It will be a little difficult to get an exact time, but you'll be in the ballpark. Time in zone won't really help as your HR will take a little time to recover once you start walking.

  •  Hi, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, do you mean this:   While I can see where I am running vs walking in that, there is no total time running vs walking.

I'm hoping to have something that either says time running or percentage of time running -  more like this (but not for heart rate obviously):

  • Thats actually a very good idea how to track walking pace during running. Unfortunatelly it looks like Garmin Connect can not display pace zones and Strava is calculating pace zones only on its own. However another sport platform "runalyze.com" enables you to create whatever pace zones you wish. It is free and gives you very good analyzing tool for runners - not only pace zones but fitness form, fatigue level, and lot of more. Try it if you like. All you need is to create your account, then link it to your Garmin account. This is pace zones I have just created for my last run:

  • Thank you, I created an account and it looks good! It should work at least to be able to view a single run. I haven't been able to figure out if there's a way to view all runs to track progress in that area....
