VO2 MAx on Treadmill with Footpod (Fenix 5)

I've seen a few threads on here suggesting that you can't get a VO2 Max reading on a treadmill run because it needs GPS to calculate speed, however I'm using a footpod to measure my speed on the treadmill and I think it's working.

I've not been able to find anything that explicitly says that VO2 Max works with a footpod on a treadmill, but ALL of my activities are treadmill running and the VO2 Max graph in Garmin Connect shows lots of changes over the last 6 months. Does this mean that it is using my treadmill runs to calculate my VO2 Max?

Thinking about it, I've only been using a footpod for about 6 weeks, yet the graph shows changes over the whole 6 month period, so this suggests that VO2 Max is being measured on the treadmill runs both with and without a footpod. Is this expected?

Thanks
Ben

  • It gets Speed from Average Stride Length * Run Cadense (Footpod is more Accurate than Built in Accelerometer)

Try it Without the Footpod just to make sure.

I get Running and Cycling VO2 Max on a FR35 Without any Fancy Sensors.
