When will virtual run be added to 735XT so it can be used with Zwift?

Hi

I have a relatively new and expensive 735XT.  I have been waiting for updates to the indoor run that will allow connection to zwift.

I have noticed that Fenix, FR245 and FR935 have been given virtual run to broadcast speed, cadence and HR to Zwift.

Will 735XT be made capable soon?

thanks

  • Hi

I have just checked why zwift footpod does not connect and came across similar answers re virtual run that watch is not latest and only latest watches will get virtual run.

the watch is still on the website at 299 pounds and is definitely not listed as a sale watch or obsolete watch and costs as much as some of the watches getting virtual run.

The simple point is that to someone who therefore buys the watch today,  it is definitely a latest model and is only 1 day old and has just had version 9.7 firmware update.  Could anyone explain why this watch does not warrant a virtual run addition??

It appears it is being written off before Garmin write it off and it would be good to put energy into getting Garmin to add virtual run rather than people overspending on an unsupported watch that is being made obsolete by word of mouth.

    Thanks

  • Could anyone explain why this watch does not warrant a virtual run addition??

For the same reason it does not have million other features that are available on later models.

The reason is actually totally irrelevant. Whatever the reason is, it won't help you get the virtual run feature to the FR735XT. Garmin decides which features are available on particular devices, probably based on business calculations.

  • Thanks for replies TMK2.  I get what you are inferring but the 735XT is a current watch not obsolete.  The selected watches now with virtual run are current.  But.. they only obtained virtual run via updates.  Bluetooth and Zwift are years old.  All Garmin capable watches should be brought up to date to be compatible with Bluetooth sensors and Zwift.  It’s an overdue move and a frustration that we have had  to wait so long for any type of compatibility.  Is it likely to happen? Is X735 architecture capable? These are different questions.  I have had no luck getting details out of Garmin support or Development hence why we are here.   Another question is Do you invest more money with a slow reacting company with no real customer support?  ....

  • the 735XT is a current watch not obsolete.

I'm not trying to say that it is obsolete and anyway I do not see how it - being obsolete or not - could affect the current state of things.

    Is it likely to happen?

If you ask me, I would say it is very unlikely.

Do you invest more money with a slow reacting company with no real customer support?

Please have a look at garmin's recent sales figures and you'll have an answer to this question.

  • Broadcasting Heart Rate Data to Garmin Devices

You can broadcast your heart rate data from your Forerunner® device and view it on paired Garmin® devices. For example, you can broadcast your heart rate data to an Edge® device while cycling, or to a VIRB® action camera.

NOTE: Broadcasting heart rate data decreases battery life.
    1. Select  to view the heart rate widget.
    2. Hold .
    3. Select Broadcast Heart Rate.

The Forerunner device starts broadcasting your heart rate data, and  appears.

NOTE: You can view only the heart rate page while broadcasting heart rate data.
    4. Pair your Forerunner device with your Garmin ANT‍+® compatible device.
NOTE: The pairing instructions differ for each Garmin compatible device. See your owner's manual.
TIP: To stop broadcasting your heart rate data, select any key, and select Yes.
