Timer options/issues

I have two queries.

First: is there any way to set up a timer within an activity such as strength training? For example, I want to record a workout that includes non-timed sets and reps of lifting weights and then after that use a timer within the same session to time myself completing a HIIT circuit. That way I won't have to record two separate sessions and the data would be easier to read.

Second: I have used the workout option in Garmin Connect to set up an interval circuit. It's 5 sets of 1km runs with a 2 minute break in between each run. The 2 minute breaks are set as 'rest' but I don't understand why the pace is still recorded during the rest period? I also walk around during the rest so I don't tighten up, but that distance covered is also recorded during the rest. This throws off the data recorded as I just want to know my pace during each 1km and nothing during the rest. I know I can look on Garmin Connect to see my splits but when the run is uploaded to Strava the pace is wrong as the rests have been recorded. Is there anyway to get around this?

  • 1. You can use a multisport profile for that. Either set one up in advance, to switch sports on the go by holding the down button.

Because that "Rest" thing is just a label. Rest periods are still treated as part of the workout. If you don't want them included, then I guess your only option is to pause the timer.

  • Hey thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't mind pausing the workout if I could still use a timer in that period but obviously with the watch paused I won't be able to track time at all. I just don't understand the difference between 'rest' and 'recovery' in Garmin Connect if both stages are tracked and both show up as 'laps' on the app also.

For £200 I sort of expected more from Garmin, any chance you could recommend a watch that is capable of tracking interval training a bit better?

    Cheers :)

I think all Garmins are similar in that regard, and with other brands I have very little experience.
