Mtb navigation in the woods

Hey,

I am currently thinking about getting the Forerunner 735XT.

One very important feature for me is navigation on my mountainbike within the woods. I am traveling quite a lot of time having my Mountainbike always with me.

I love it to explore the woods near to locations I am traveling to, but having the possibility to navigate within the woods having a GPS device with me, would save me a lot of time getting lost in the woods from time to time.

Is it possible to navigate with this watch within the woods? Is the navigation fast enough for a mountainbike? I have not found any videos yet showcasing that.

  • The FR735XT has only very basic navigation functionality. You can upload a course to the watch, and then the watch will guide on that course. Using it on a bike can be problematic, as it would require to constantly monitor the display.

  • For running in the woods it works great imho. Only when you encounter a split that has multiple paths close together I sometimes choose the wrong path. What TMK2 said would worry though, looking at the watch means not havinf eyes on the road. On a MTB that's a bit asking for troubles I think.
