Garmin watches do not sync with iOs--beware

I have made a comment earlier on my challenges syncing my 735x, but feel it is important to note that NO Garmin watches sync with iOs. So if you have a iPhone, beware. I grew so frustrated with my 735x issues that I (with huge reservations) bought a 45. The same problems exist, and I confirmed in a call with Garmin support that this is true for ALL watches. Garmin cannot sync if you have an iPhone.

They have shut down virtually every avenue to customer support: no email (the form does not complete), no chat (the chat box does not come up) and no mailing address for a letter.

I told the customer support person I was never buying Garmin again after my experience, and he said, "OK. Can I help you with anything else?"

Done.

  • Which iPhone do you have? In my house we have a 735xt, an Instinct and a Forerunner 35 and all of them sync with our iPhones. Plus 2 vivofit fitness trackers.

    iPhone X

  • 735XT + iPhone 6S - No issues. Sync works fine.

  • Don't be so silly. Every watch I've had syncs perfectly fine with all iPhones I've had. Vivoactive, vivosmart abd the 735. iPhone ranges from 5, to the X.

What is your issue? Perhaps we can help.

If you have tried pairing your watch via the iOS Bluetooth menu then there is your issue. You pair the watch via Garmin connect

Please be respectful. This is not "silly". I have validated with Garmin in multiple phone calls that this is an ongoing issue on their end. If you go to other threads in this forum you will see many people with the same problem, and Garmin posting on these threads that this is an issue that they cannot fix. This problem has existed for months if not years. Instead of mansplaining to me, count yourself lucky that you have not experienced it.

  • It is silly when you make such a bold statement that "NO Garmin watches sync with IOS" simply due to you experiencing an issue. Which is factually incorrect!

Youve not yet explained what's happening, perhaps we can help here?

Once I updated my iphone X to iOS13 I have been having the issue of my 735xt not receiving text messages but everything else works perfectly. I've tried resetting my watch and looking at notifications, but nothing yet.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hi MSimen,

I too was pretty frustrated w my 735xt to Iphone 11 (both new as of this month).  Every Garmin instruction *including the one tmk2 tried to help with did not work. I did first connect the watch to my computer which has Garmin Express on it so it “recognized” my watch but didn’t “Bluetooth connect” it.

The Garmin iOS instructions do not work. I finally successfully connected to Bluetooth for wireless download / notifications by doing most of the work *on the watch*. First, you need to hit “play” (so not intuitive) on the watch, then at the activity screen, select “down” arrow in order to select “menu”. Then arrow down to “settings” (hit play to select), then down 2 selections to Bluetooth (hit play to select). Arrow down 3 times to select Pair Mobile Device. Then, yes you connect to the phone and type in the pin as per intuitive Garmin instructions.

Tell us if it works. I cannot believe they haven’t updated their websites to reflect an actual working option.
