735xt died during swimming

Hello,

I hope you'll be able to help me as the watch i bought a few weeks ago just died suddenly while I was swimming with it. At first i thought it's just the battery that got depleted as it was quite low. When I returned home I charged it as it seemed to work, but there was something wrong.

Firstly, it now has periods when it's really slow, non operative to buttons, seconds from the watch face don't get updated for several seconds etc. and other periods it works just fine.

Secondly the battery runs out really fast now - from about a week or more to about a few hours now.

Thirdly, I noticed some kind of very minor screen colors fluctuation in the periods when it gets frozen. Not easily noticeable, but it's there. I can try to make a video of it.

I originally thought the battery was low, I fully depleted it so the capacity got dramatically reduced, but now i think it actually got wet inside and something got short circuit. Anyone experienced something similar? Is there anything I can do about it (I did a few resets already (long press if the on/off button))?
  • Did you try the hard/master reset? I think it is restarting while holding the activity and back button, but search the forum. However, occasionally someone gets a dud, and it can only be replaced - contact Garmin. As per instructions, it is essential not to push buttons while the watch is submerged under water as it puts extra stress on the seals. Many who have had problems did not heed this instruction from the manual. My watch is >2yrs old swimming ~700k meters/yr with no problems.

I had a similar problem after my first open water swim in really cold water. The seal apparently let some water inside and messed around with buttons functioning etc. I contacted Garmin support and had to return the watch. According to Garmin support- the earlier watches had a problem with not being as watertight as they should. The problem has been fixed on the newer 735xt being produced. They had me send my watch back and sent back a newer version.
