A couple of strange mid-long run HRM 'de-couplings'

Good morning all,
I have recently noticed on a couple of long runs my 735XT decides to stop using my external HRM-Tri, and switch to its internal optical HRM, and hence as well as losing the additional data collected by the external HRM, i get some dodgy mid-run HR readings (e.g. jumping up c. 20bpm or so, then falling back down, without any change in exertion).
It only seems to happen at the 1hr15+ mark, so my midweek <1hr runs are unaffected, and seem to be fine. I thought it must be the battery running down in the HRM, but changing it seemed to make no difference.
I have a marathon coming up, and hence would like to be able to rely on my HRM data once i'm over 1hr in to it.M ight anyone have any idea as to what might be happening?
I attach a couple of example activities. In TrainingPeaks, the data looks even stranger, with what look like long (1/2hr+) stops in the early stages, that certainly didn't happen.

Is it a 735XT problem or a HRM-Tri problem..?
Many thanks for any thoughts.
John
  • I have a FR735XT with firmware 9.30 and just did a 90-minute long run with the HRM-Tri. No disconnections whatsoever.
  • Just to be a little constructive, the only way to make sure is to do a test with the HRM-Tri strap and another watch. Or try another strap with your watch.

    Hi there,
What happened to John seems to have happened to me too....look at my activity. After about an hour and 20 minutes of running HR, vertical oscillations etc all drop out...
HR comes about an hour later, but the rest are all still missing. This happened exactly after 9.30 and for the 1st time since I bought my 735 and HRM-tri..

    my last long run

Also after 9.30 my HR data collected by the watch is dead wrong
this is from a tempo run where my usual heart rate is around 170 at that pace. The start is fine around 150...then I increase my pace from 4.30s to 4.15 and my HR drops to 120s...totally rubbish (only explanation is if I got infused by a cryptonite or something)
