Pulse on treadmill

I have a garmin 735xt , when using running indoor activity on treadmill , pulse does not show in treadmill display. Do I have to have a pulse belt to achive this ?

Is your treadmill capable of receiving heart rate over ANT+? If it is, then you need to enable HR broadcast on your watch.
