735XT - GPS inaccurate on track

Hey guys,

I am using the 735XT for several month now, and, beside ONE big issue, I am completely satisfied. I am part of a running team and on every wednesday we train intervalls on track. They differ from 100m to 5k. The issue now is that my 735XT doesnt track my intervalls accurate. On a track of 400m, sometimes the difference is at least 20m (max. 50m) which is not that small. Other athletes from my team who are also using garmin products do not have that big issues. Do you guys have any idea how to improve my GPS?

I am looking forward to reading your answers!

Best,
Michael

    Hey guys,
After trying almost everything I have read about, things arent getting better, hence, after my Berlin Marathon, Garmin should fix it...

    Thank you!
    Michael
  • Hi Michael,
Have also your problem, but in a more weird way: when I run on the track clockwise I usually get less 10 meters over a lap (400m), but if I run counter-clockwise I get 40 meters more. And I have GPS + Glonas, there are no surrounding buildings and the watch is recording in every second mode.
So I think it is definitely a 735XT accuracy issue. And, like you, besides that I'm completely satisfied and just hope Garmin is reading this thread and fix this problem soon...
  • When you run counterclockwise, do you run on the same inner lane as when running clockwise?
  • Hey tmk2,
    You're kidding, right?
Of course I ran on the same inner lane (for several times to verify the data I was getting)

Just making sure, to exclude the obvious. I run regularly on a track at my local stadium, and I see that people who run in the opposite direction (for whatever reason), often do it on the outer lanes, not to interfere with the opposite traffic. I didn't mean to offend you. I don't know you personally, and by visiting this forum regularly you would be surprised what kind of obvious mistakes some users do in their line of thinking, so I started by trying to get past some simple potential reasons for you issue, especially that I never noticed this kind of issue with my FR735XT.
  • On a track it matters which arm your watch is on. Try always wearing in the inside and reverse direction and see if it’s accurate now.

Don't worry, I didn't feel offended, just surprised (maybe for being a rookie here). On the contrary: I thank you for the time you spent trying to help me.

Never thought it would be possible, but I'll sure try it. Thanks
  • Although the outer wrist indeed covers slighlty longer distance than the inner wrist, I would be surprised to see a difference bigger than a couple of meters per 400m lap, certainly not to a degree you reported. But sure, give it a try. I'm curious to see the result.
  • It’s weird, but the difference is more. I think it's because of the small area you are running in and the GPS corrections going on to get the accuracy improved. Let us know how you both get on.
