Life expectancy for 735xt

hi,

i just wondered what people though though the life expectancy should be for a 735xt? I’ve had mine 18 months (of which 9 I was pregnant and didn’t exercise as was high risk) and my watch has died.... ????

both the retailer and garmin are not not being helpful....whilst I know it’s outside of warranty I would expect it to last longer than 18 months!

interested in others opinions, views or experiences
  • Please describe the problem more specifically. You plug into charger and nothing happens? Which country are you in?

The screen is either a combination of two screens eg time and activity and is jumbled or is completely blank. It first happened when I was on a run and I tried charging it and the problem got worse.

    Im in the uk
  • Hi,

As you are still a member of the European Union, I think you should get warranty for a period of 2 years.

    Kind regards
  • I purchased my 735xt in April 2017 and my has died as well. A few weeks ago, it started turning on and off, screen changing, blinking, beeping and wouldn't sync to computer. Today, it has completely died, screen is colored lines. I too believe it should last longer than a year. My old 405 lasted 7-years. I've sent an email to support, but looking through the forums, it appears many people are having this issue with the 735. Hopeful that Garmin will help us out!
  • Do you swim with the 735? I’ve seen water ingress issues before causing this type of fault. Normally Garmin replace in that sort of incident.
  • I bought mine in September of 2016. About two weeks ago, I spent the day playing in the pool and about 10pm that night, I noticed that the screen was all jumbled up. I power cycled the watch and the screen was still jumbled with all the colors reversed. I filled out a form on the Garmin Support site and my replacement is supposed to be here on Tuesday. I didn't bother with calling or emailing.
  • Remember it says in the manual not to press the buttons under water.

IF the problem is NOT based on hardware failure or watter ingress, it COULD be by
fully depleted or unstable/weak battery and also software chaotic state inside device.

If this is the case, following steps could help:

*1*/ CHARGE by simple phone USB charger for 20 minutes (not USB port on computer) and in that ignoring all nonsenses on display,

*2*/ keep attached to charger and use steps described in manual for this:

** Reset the Device (hold power/light button) more than 15 sec (ignore the Power Off option)
    ** Clearing User Data
    ** Restoring All Default Settings
    ** Reset the Device (again)

*3*/ if steps above will not solve the issue, I would recommend (if applicable) to ask the seller or Garmin subsidiary for help or warranty repair. If the warranty is expired, there is still chance that Garmin will help you somehow - just try to ask them.
  • Bought my 735 just after it was released and have been a happy user until a couple off months ago where I started to notice that the watch needed more frequent charging and would only last about 4~5 hours training and realized that new battery replacement was not an option which was quite a disappointment to me. On average I've been running about 200K monthly since I bought it.

Garmin doesn't offer out-of-warranty battery replacement for the 735xt?
