In over my head??

Hi! I think I might have bought the wrong watch.... lol
Other than FitBit and Moov, I'm completely new to high end activity trackers. The info out on the interwebs is pretty overwhelming and I kept reading about all of the amazing things the 735XT does for running and about all of the apps you can download for trail running. I'm a novice trail runner and honestly I'm not currently into training to win races or anything like that. While I'd love to get faster, I'm probably not going to divide my hear rate by number of breaths by number of poops I take in a day, times the number of crappy songs my streaming service plays to reach any goals. I'm just simply gonna get out there and run and be happy with my faster days and even happier that I ran on my slower days- but I'd like to see elevation, time, pace and general stuff like that. I don't bike or swim unless I'm hanging out with my family, and unless they incorporate mud and obstacles into triathlons, I most likely won't register for one any time soon.
So did I completely get the wrong watch?
If not- can someone recommend a good trail running app I can use with it if there is one? (I've looked but haven't seen one that blew my socks off yet... but that might be the learning curve of the 735xt in the beginning for me.) If there's a great one, then I will continue to power on using it and figuring it out. ***, I might even jump in a pool and swim a lap for fun one day.
If I did go way out of my league, can someone recommend one that would be better?
I MOST DEF want smartwatch features so I don't have to look at my phone on runs and during the day, and truthfully, I'd like it to be a smartwatch first with a great app/ feature for trail running if possible.
Thanks so much for the help!

I guess I should also add that I am a weightlifter. While I have yet to find any app that can accurately track that and the caloric burn that can last up to 2 days post workout... I'm open to suggestions. I'd love it if someone out there knows something that even somewhat works that I don't lol. :) TIA!
  • The FR735XT might not be optimal for you.

I use the FR735XT for trail running, but it has its weak spots in that regard. The most serious one being the lack of barometric altimeter. Another issue I have when trail running is that I cannot access the course elevation plot once course navigation is started. I had it in my old watch, I found it very useful and I miss it.

Another issue is notifications during activity. When an activity is running you do get info about incoming notification, but there is no way to read it unless you stop the activity and either save it or discard it.

What I find confusing about your requirements is the trail app. I cannot recommend anything for you, because I don't know what you expect. I just use the built-in trail running profile with data screens customized to my liking.

To sum it up: I think the FR935 or a Fenix 5 would be better suited for your needs.
  • Have you tried Hike2 app from iq store?
