Inaccurate and Missing Data after 20 miles - Running

Today and last weekend as well, I have experienced significant problems with inaccurate and missing data once I reach the 20 mile point in my run. During the run, the instant pace is completely unreliable after that point and after saving the activity and viewing in Garmin Connect and/or Strava, the map data from 20 miles onward is completely missing. It seems that the watch (735xt) keeps an accurate record of total distance and time, but having run marathon distance today, from miles 20-26.2, I have zero map data and the instant pace field while running is not reliable. Any assistance or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

  • Here is the FIT file. Things went wrong after mile 20.
  • Hi All,
I was experiencing something similar. I was into the event and was very relying on the watch course navigation as the course was unmarked and the watch started to playing funny approximately every 4 hours

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2560496137

First time at approximately 4 hours mark (starting 4hrs 2 minutes on the track) the GPS position frozen or moved randomly around the area, at that point did nothing and had to use the phone for navigation. After ~40 minutes it got resolved by itself.

2nd (~8 hrs 13 minutes) - it was even weirder first pointer froze and then it started to move in the completely wrong direction, funny thing that even when I was not moving and trying to figure out the way distance ticked, here I have counted 3 extra kms. The only solution I could come up with is to restart the watch hoping it will save 8 hours run. It did save and then the watch started it was back to normal (it seems that GPS worked fine as the phone didn't have any troubles navigating me)
3rd - around 12 hours and 40 minutes, here as soon as I saw it started, rebooted straight away and it got back to normal.

It is very disappointing that in the circumstances when I need the watch functionality it played trick on me.
This is important to me for watch to work flawlessly as designed and I will report this post to Garmin as well.

Settings were GPS Only, Data recording Smart.

If anyone has any insight on this that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Denis
  • Submitted this case to Garmin for help, but no reply since start of the week. Is their customer service always like that?
