Activities not tracking distance following 8.40 update

Since updating to 8.40 activities aren't tracking distance. Time and pace are reflected but I can't get any distance. When I try to save the activities, the transfer to my phone now fails as it seems I can no longer maintain bluetooth pairing with my phone consistently. Also saving / discarding takes extremely long periods of time now... have seen it take as long as 2 hours when it used to be seconds.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues or have suggestions on a fix? Is it possible to downgrade firmware?

Thanks.
  • Second run in the last 2 days and so far so good, I've re enabled Bluetooth but disabled Strava Segments!

    Are you using Strava Segments?
  • Just loaded the 9.11 firmware and the issue is not resolved yet.
I still have the same issue with firmware 9.11.
  • Thought I was out of the woods, but after 9 or 10 straight activities without a problem my bike ride would not save yesterday. No problem recording distance during the ride, but the watch got stuck on the saving screen for about 10 minutes. Eventually it went back to the activity screen at 0:00. So frustrated.

For now I will I’ll try turning off the Strava segments feature from the watch and see if that helps. Gotta figure out how to do that actually. This is ridiculous though.

    No, I am not

  • Ok - So mine should fail soon then...

    Why should yours fail?
Michael is nog having the issues, probably because he is not having/using the Strava segments!

Mine also fails constantly, probably because I use Strava segments.
5 or 6 others from my running club do all have a Garmin 735(!) and never have the mentioned issue(!) while I know none of them uses Strava segments.
So, I really start to believe it has nothing to do with Bluetooth, but very probably is Strava segments responsible for this issue and Garmin has to do something about it. The issue is already 3 months now!
  • I went in the app, disabled Strava Segments, and synced my 735xt. No other changes since Friday. Will see how the next 10 or so activities go. Will definitely report back.

Meanwhile hoping to see Garmin address the issue.
  • I made the mistake of not deleting anything or resetting the watch and so the next workout failed to record distance. :( Going to try clearing the 11 folders mentioned above and rebooting, then make sure Strava Segments are still off.
  • By deleting those folders you are partially resetting the watch. I’d just do a master reset, wipe it back to factory settings and then you know there shouldn’t be anything causing an issue.
