Activities not tracking distance following 8.40 update

Since updating to 8.40 activities aren't tracking distance. Time and pace are reflected but I can't get any distance. When I try to save the activities, the transfer to my phone now fails as it seems I can no longer maintain bluetooth pairing with my phone consistently. Also saving / discarding takes extremely long periods of time now... have seen it take as long as 2 hours when it used to be seconds.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues or have suggestions on a fix? Is it possible to downgrade firmware?

Thanks.

I have been having this same issue since Christmas. Have to reset every week or so... And then don't manage to record 1 in 10 runs as I get there and the distance won't track.
  • Just for info since the last factory reset I've left Bluetooth off!

    So far it's working fine..

Try resetting the watch but instead of pairing with mobile, sync the watch with a computer..

I'm reluctant to pair the watch with my phone until Garmin push out a fix!

Got the same problem and it is extremely annoying.

I had my watch sent in and received a new one.
But also with the new watch, after the 3rd run, it stopped recording the distance.
    Clearly a software issue.

Moreover, I also noticed a similar problems when I went Indoor swimming. The saving took for ever until it crashed (happened already twice).

Can one go back to the 8.20 version before this problem appeared?

  • This issue affected me this morning, indoor bike session, and a 2km run afterwards, despite speed data being displayed for the turbo sesh, and pace info on screen for the run, there was no distance data.

After removing content from the following folders, normal operation has been restored.. just worried for how long it'll be ok before falling over again.

    • Double-click on the device to enter its directory
    • Double-click on the GARMIN folder to open it
    • In this folder, please delete the contents in the following folders (if the folder is not present, just delete from the folders that are there)

From experience about 3 or 4 days.. But mine has been fine for 10 days now, after resetting to defaults I never turned Bluetooth back on..

  • I am also having the exact same problem as described in this thread, tried all the fixes mentioned, however the same issue returns every time. Makes the watch pretty useless. Does any one have any idea when a permanent solution will be available?

  • Reset the watch to defaults, Do Not pair with your phone i.e leave Bluetooth off! "You'll have to sync with a computer" this works for me.. Since Bluetooth is off I've not had the problem..

    We wait for a fix!
  • I had the issue with two watches and I tried several things. It looks like that the Strava-Segments could be the cause.
Are you all using the Strava-Segments?

  • I do yes - but none are on my watch at the moment. Perhaps I'll disable Strava Segments via the Garmin app and turn on Bluetooth and see what happens.. I'll report back soon..
  • I have never had this issue on my 735XT running 9.10

I always have Bluethooth on and always sync via BT.
