735XT Bluetooth sync issues - Huawei p9 Lite

Since last week of October my 735 refuses to connect and sync with my Huawei P9 Lite.

I tried to do almost everything.
On the smartphone, clean data and cache, uninstall and reinstall the app.
On the watch, turn off/on, master reset, format partitior, reinstall files, trying to downgrade firmware...... Nothing !

Actually If I try to pair, often it's not possibile to digit the bluetooth sync numer (windows disappears before I completed , and then reappears, and so on..)
And if you reach this phase, it goes on timeout during pairing process...

This has been working for a year and a half, with minor but acceptable issues .
Actually watch is less useful and, more important, not doing what I paid for.

Garmin smartphone compatility list marks OK this brand/model.

I wrote to Service Support and I received a standard mail with instructions to format and reinstall files. Done with no success.
After that, another mail suggesting to send to service point to fix the problem.
Customer service not useful.

I tried also to connect a Samsung J5 and magically.... it worked
So I assumed that all my time, efforts and personal loss of data have been caused by an improper software release that has caused problems to huawei p8 - p9 model in particular.

I read a lot of complaints on this forum, with same issues on 235 model, but not on 735xt .

Have you faced similar problems?
Have you any suggestion?
thank you
Alex

    - restart phone
    - open connect garmin v. 4.1.9 [ internet connection ON - Localization services ON]
    - Add watch selecting 735xt
    - before press "blue button" disable internet connection and localization services
    - select on the watch "paring to phone" button under BT section
    - push blue button on GC app
    - the process discover your watch e sent code (FAST!) activate Internet Connection ONLY!
    - after some "data transfer to phone errors" don't touch anything only on the watch side "retry"
    - after some time GC tell me "phone connected" [ without touching anything! ]

I don't now if this can help some one, for my worked after many and many retries .... and absurdly right now the connection stay stable!! :-O

Also after phone restart the connection stay alive!

I can confirm seriously that This method works like a charm. Tested on 2 Huaweis P9 lite 2016, one with Vivoactive HR, second with Vivoactive 3.
I can confirm too, after restaring connection is still active and GP works with the Watch :)

    Hello,

I can also confirm that this method works.
I had to restart both devices ( Huawei P9Lite an Vivoactive HR ) 3 times and started the method like explained above and yes, it's working!

    Good luck everybody.
    I'm glad I'm connected again.

    Thanks esaone!!

I think the problem is with Garmin Connect rather than Huawei.

This app is no different from other smart watches app. I have an Amazfit from Xiaomi - and it works flawlessly.

The main issue I guess is that the app is unable to continue running in the background after Connect is closed.

    Rather frustrating
  • I have a Fenix 5 and a Huawei P9 lite and have been super frustrated with this crap for a year now, I was either buying a new watch or new phone. Both products are great and im sure have super smart people working for them so why they can find a solution together is crazy.

The bluetooth signal is disrupted by the Wifi, cellar connection, location services all working at the same time.

Two days ago i found a 100% working solution.

1: Uninstall Garmin connect latest version seems to be more problematic
2: Download Garmin connect version 3.22 and install, https://www.apk4fun.com/apk/174557/
3: Switch off wifi, leave cellular data connection On
    4: Location services On
    5: Blue tooth Off
6 Open settings/location services and leave this minimized (this will be toggled off as soon as you have paired to the watch with the code).
    7: Run Garmin Connect
8: Select Fenix 5 from the list
9: You will be prompted to switch on bluetooth from inside the app, switch it on, wait for the paring code
10: At this point toggle to the location services window and switch it off, Its a bit tricky the code will reappear a few times then will stay on the screen longer.
11: The pairing installation will continue.

Once its complete, do the following
Only used cellular connection, the connection is lost if you switch on Wifi and or Location services.
Sometimes if you need to reconnect, switch off bluetooth in settings, open Garmin connect and switch it on in the app you will see a red icon next to the watch picture, a blur tooth icon appers just click on it.
Switch off auto update in Google play so it doesn't update to the latest version.

    I hope this helps.

I can pair the watch now. But sync still not working. So I am using phone hotspot as wifi to sync now since my Fenix 5 has wifi function.
  • Paired the watch again but the apps wont sync the info, like calander is not filling watch with info
  • Hello everybody,

the last 9.20 update seems to correct the connection issues when localization services was on...right now connection stay stable also with this service on.

    I'm very happy!
Ps. I Don't believe to upgrade anymore so fast when an update will be released... :-D

Garmin-joey , take a POSITION ON THIS FORUM!
I also posted in other thread discussing about the problem with these watches and Huawei mobiles.
I had a 735xt that I changed because of the connectivity problems, now I have a 935 because some days ago I read about the new versions with your explicit "fixed problems with HUAWEY phones" butbut situation is not changed.
The GConnect expect the 935 bt connection but with no success...
It's incredible, I read everywere on the web about these problems since last years and were is Garmin?
I connect a lot of device with my phone and I never had any problems...
I hope...but you have to say something at least to your customer...

We have seen great improvement between devices that have received updates to address issues with Huawei phones. If you are still experiencing issues we would encourage you to contact your local Product Support team so that we can collect specific information from you phone and device to further investigate this.
