735XT Bluetooth sync issues - Huawei p9 Lite

Since last week of October my 735 refuses to connect and sync with my Huawei P9 Lite.

I tried to do almost everything.
On the smartphone, clean data and cache, uninstall and reinstall the app.
On the watch, turn off/on, master reset, format partitior, reinstall files, trying to downgrade firmware...... Nothing !

Actually If I try to pair, often it's not possibile to digit the bluetooth sync numer (windows disappears before I completed , and then reappears, and so on..)
And if you reach this phase, it goes on timeout during pairing process...

This has been working for a year and a half, with minor but acceptable issues .
Actually watch is less useful and, more important, not doing what I paid for.

Garmin smartphone compatility list marks OK this brand/model.

I wrote to Service Support and I received a standard mail with instructions to format and reinstall files. Done with no success.
After that, another mail suggesting to send to service point to fix the problem.
Customer service not useful.

I tried also to connect a Samsung J5 and magically.... it worked
So I assumed that all my time, efforts and personal loss of data have been caused by an improper software release that has caused problems to huawei p8 - p9 model in particular.

I read a lot of complaints on this forum, with same issues on 235 model, but not on 735xt .

Have you faced similar problems?
Have you any suggestion?

  • Playing devil's advocate, maybe Huawei should?

    I am sure Garmin will be aware of the issues and will be trying to fix it but should the wearable vendor always pick up the pieces when a phone vendor breaks something in their bluetooth stack?


    Maybe because Huawei dont care about one hundred people having issue with their Garmin device and on the other side tens of thousands not having any problems with their Huawei/Honor phone...
    I wanna say that I have this issue with my FR235 and my Honor 6X !
  • I was having the same issue with iOS 11. I have just updated to latest revision and updated to latest Garmin Beta and it is fixed.
    Not sure which was the cure
  • There is a new GC app version on Play Store, version 4.1.5, I updated it and the pairing works well again ! The BT connection between my Garmin and the phone seems to be good again

    I guess most of you are having the same prob here?
    Garmin vivoactive hr has been working for about a year without any prob with current configuration.
    This all started a month ago more or less and in the meanwhile I've hardreseted my phone (huawei p8 lite 2017) twice, I've removed the GC app and removed the cache and data twice as well, I've hardreseted the vivoactive hr using webupdater, using option in the watch and using the button procedure too many times... I've sent the watch to garmin for them to review it... And they had returned it to me saying it was working as expected and that they have detected a problem with huawei last updates. They assure they're working with huawei to get it solved, but no more comments about it.

    New GC 4.1.6 doesn't work as well.

    It's a complete pain in the ass to have to connect through usb cable to be able to review my activities... And i haven't talked about that one of the reasons to buy garmin was to have smart notifications

    Hope someone else or garmin could found a solution

  • Same issue here. Using VivoSmart 3 and Huawei P10 lite. Erm...trying to use it, anyway. I haven't been able to pair again since the last couple of Garmin Connect updates came out.

    Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
  • Problem persists with 735XT and Connect 4.1.7
    I would try to downgrade firmware to check if something changes.
    But I haven't been able to do it.
    I tried several times but it seems impossible.

    Have you any suggestion?
    Is there some of Garmin's team that can suggest us what to do (except calling Huawei) ? :-)

    I stopped to use the watch
    Without BT smart notifications and with USB cable sync is pretty unworthy.

    Incredibile.
    Probably no one Garmin product in my future.

  • Just an update.
    Yesterday I had the chance to meet Garmin's people in an international financial fair.
    I discussed about this issue with Huawei and the fitness product manager confirmed me to be known and under management.
    It won't be Easy but It Will be a solution.
    I have not much more informations, but i'm Happy to know that there Will be a solution.
    Hope ad soon as possible.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem whit Huawei P9, since 9 October, before this date everything was OK.
    The 735XT do not sync the sport session with app.
    There is not also the notification on the watch about sms, mail or phone calls.
    I tried to reset the Forerunner and pair but nothing changed.
  • Same for me using P10 lite. Old MotoG2 with 735XT works well, and P10 with Edge 820 is ok. Unfortunally 735 with P10 aren't "friends".

    I would like to know if somebody check if the BT conecction with the Forerunner 735XT and Huawei Mate 10 run properly.
