8.40 resets ALL widgets when installing

My girlfriend and I just installed 8.40. The update RESET ALL OUR WIDGET settings. All other settings such as Activity Settings were all kept. But if you installed a new face, all the widgets that you can scroll through were ALL GONE.

Beware when installing this update !!!
  • The same happened to me, very annoying indeed.

What is worse is that the resting heart rate widget is gone and that i can't manage the widgets via garmin express anymore. when I click on "manage apps" in GE the following page is just empty. i haven't used this feature for a while but i believe there was a list where i could change the order of widgets and add/remove apps.

TomaekThompson You should be able to use Garmin Express to re-enable the widgets on your device. If you are not seeing the page load when you select 'Manage Apps', try closing and reopening GE and ensuring that you have the latest version.

Hey GFM1011. First of all, thank you for being Garmin's firefighter on the forums collecting all feedback from us the users.

I just wanted to voice my opinion that Garmin should consider doing *less* when it comes to releasing features. Currently the status seems to be overpromise / underdeliver which erodes your users' trust in your products. Please convey to your product managers that some more stability / reliability would go a long way.

I was able to re-enable the widgets using garmin express mobile (android). i just checked on the "normal" GE again and this time they were also there.

Not just widgets, but watch faces, applications and data fields too. For me at least. :(
  • 8.40 has been a complete mess for me. This morning it would not start recording and I couldn't turn it off. Ended up turning off by hard reset; powered it on and all widgets lost. Worse, the automatic time is setting it 4 hours 17 minutes early. I've tried setting the time manually successfully but when I set the time to automatic it has gone back to the old time.
  • 1. I'm glad this was released a couple of days after my fall goal race instead of a couple of days before.
    2. I'm glad that I'm taking this whole week off running and my 735 has been turned off and sitting on the dresser this whole time.
    3. I didn't get away scot-free because the FW update for the VA3 hasn't been smooth sailing either. Still not as bad as this though.
  • I wish I had seen this 15 minutes ago. Putting the widgets back isn't the end of the world, the more annoying part is it has also changed my data screens in the activates.
  • I noticed that the update hid the widgets I had visible and made visible the widgets that I had hidden. This isn't a big deal for the pre-installed widgets as I just go to Menu > Setting > Widgets and hide the widgets again and then add the ones I wanted. If you had connect iq widgets, it sounds like you have to get them from managing apps in Express or my favorite way is to do it on the app in the Garmin Devices page tap the watch and then tap the Connect iq option. The step widget is update and looks more like the widget on the Vivoactive 3.
