Accelerometer Accuracy.

Hi everyone,

I just recently purchased a Forerunner 735xt. I love a lot of things about it, but something stands out as curious at best, and possibly inaccurate.

I do most of my running on a treadmill, which means I use the ?run indoor? setting to track my running. What I?ve noticed so far is that the pace listed on the watch has almost nothing to do with how fast I?m actually running. The pace is almost entirely calculated by the extent of my arm movement.

For instance, I can nearly walk on the treadmill, but if I swing my arms as hard as I can, my pace will drop below 5 min/mile. On the other hand, if I run at a good clip but don?t move my arms all that much, my pace will shoot up to 12-15 min/mile. Same goes for if I simply want to look at the watch to check my pace. The pace will go from reading 7 min/mile to 12 in only seconds.

Can somebody help me understand this, and help me understand if there?s a way to fix it? I like this watch, but it was expensive...it should be more accurate than my free running app and my $50 foot pod.

Thanks!

Not "almost". The arm movement is the ONLY way for the watch to estimate pace.

You can try to move your arms more naturally not to fool the watch or you can use a footpod.
