I've been experiencing the same issue with my new FR 735XT, whenever i connect it via USB to my laptop the watch freezes in the charging screen face and non of the buttons work, it only works after a few hours. i'm still trying to find a solution, currently the watch needs to be updated with the latest software however my laptop its not recognizing its connected and thus i cant perform the upgrade via Garmin Express ... can anyone offer any suggestions
  • I have the same problem.
My solution is that you turn off the watch.
You then connect it to your PC. The PC will the turn on the watch for you and it will work :)

Turning the watch on and off is tedious, loses the set time, and should not be at all required for a ?400 watch. I want it bloody well connecting and syncing for that money ! And I also want it to make cake and sing me a lullaby whilst spooning me to sleep. Uninstall Garmin Express. I think this is an issue with older versions of G Express which have been paired or synced with older Garmin devices. Reinstall G Express then introduce your new watch as the primary sync device. Worked for me.
  • Yours doesn?t make cake? Just press start, up, add and select the make cake widget. Oh damn, that?s only on the 935.
  • I was getting a very similar issue, which had another annoying issue to go with it - I'd go for a run, but hitting the start button wouldn't trigger an activity. Once I restarted the watch it worked. That was more annoying, but I was getting the USB freeze as well. Anyway, I reset the watch to default settings, and have found it a lot more stable, has fixed both problems. Worth a try anyway.
  • I am having the same problem, when disconnecting from USB the clock freezes displaying the current power percentage... have to wait for loooong time until i can use the watch again.
My first guess was the added watchface, tried with 3 different watch faces including the defualt one, same problem :-(
    Firmware 8.30 to 8.32, same problem :-(

Anyone new informations about this issue?

Same problem here with 735xt. USB charging freezes watch. Turning the watch off and back on brings it back with the wrong time. Then one fiddles around with clock settings until hopefully you get lucky and have the corrected time. Sucks!
  • seeing same. I've had a bit more success clipping the charger on before plugging in the USB end. it doesn't happen all the time. I took a video of the issue and submitted a support ticket with the video. Garmin was appreciative, but they haven't said that they know what the issue is. I'd ask everyone to do the same and maybe Garmin will put some more effort into figuring out the issue.
  • Hi
i encounter the same issue with firmware 9.30 or 9.33
and while charging on a macbook pro 2017.
Do you think it is a software issue or should i contact garmin sav? ( it is systematic i can t connect it without freezing. After the timing is totally changed too
    any help would be appreciated!
ps/ my watch is under warranty until nov 2018!

Same issue here. In my case, I noticed the when the Bluetooth is on when I connect to my computer the watch freezes. So the "solution" would be to turn off the Bluetooth everytime you connect. Not perfect but it worked for me. Still a very annoying issue. Like someone said here before, for this price it should work properly. Hope it helps! Cheers!
