Watch doesn't boot anymore, stuck in 'service mode'.

Hi All,

First of all an official 'nice to meet u all'.

I am happy owner of an 735 since about one year. No problems so far, all good, just until yesterday when my watch battery was completely empty and the watch shut down.

After charging, I started the watch again and since then it always boots the service menu. I can't get the watch to boot normally. I can click through the service menu, no probs. But how can I leave it and get the watch to start in normal mode? Couldn't find any guide how to use the service menu on Google as well.

Can anyone help? Unfortunately I am currently on holiday without any Garmin retailer nearby. Also no Laptop to connect it to Garmin Connect. I charged the watch with an iPhone charger, might that be the reason?

Thanks for ur help in advance!

Best regards from Croatia!
  • Use the up/down botton to go through the screens. and you'll probably see something on the last screen where there's something to do to leave service mode. There has been on other watches I got into this state.
  • Can you power it off by pressing and holding the light button? If so then you can do a factory reset

  • Thanks both for ur ideas.

Pressing and holding the power (light) button doesn't help. Even pressing it for 5, 10, 15 secs.

The service menu flips automatically, I can't navigate via the up and down buttons. The last entry of the menu can't be displayed correctly, I can see the same symbols as when getting an image sent via WhatsApp or emojis which the clock cannot display.

later I will try calling the support hotline. Maybe they can help.

    Any my other ideas?
  • Thanks Onlytwo, looks like u had the right idea.

I assume the "down" button is stuck. Looking at the service menu, it constantly scrolls downwards. Also every other button gives a ton when I click it in the menu, just the down button doesn't.

If the combination of "power" and "down" button leads into the service menu, I think we found the problem. Does anyone know these combinations?

Not much I can do other then sending the watch to Garmin I guess when I am back from hols..

Did you manage to get the watch sorted? Mine is doing exactly the same thing?
