Why is my Adidas Speed Cell "BLUETOOTH SMART" FootPod (G75090) working with my 735XT?

Today i used my 2nd pair of running shoes (with adidas Speed cell (BT_smart) attached) and all of a sudden "peep" - FOOT-POD connected!! After the run i checked to be sure and it's in the sensor pool (i can choose speed "when GPS off", "always" or "never").

I thought that only Fenix5/5s/5x & 935XT are able to connect to BT-Sensors?? what is going on??

YES, i checked the back of the sensor (used it with my smartphone for a year now). It's the BLUETOOTH SMART sensor (not ANT+)!

The really strange thing is i DID NOT search for sensors, just hit the upper right button to "pre-start" the RUN-activity (waiting for GPS & OHR fix).

EDIT1: Added photos of sensor pool... has an ANT+ ID (disabled BT on the watch just to be sure)
  • are you sure there isn't another footpod in range somewhere close? What firmware are you on?

i'm 100% sure. i only own a Wahoo CAD sensor (already paired with the watch). Watch is running on FW 7.20.

I still don't believe it. I did not search for any new sensors ..... i'm happy that it works .... but i don't understand it!

  • Interesting.
Just tried with a Polar H7 and it doesn't work.

Can you check if data is really coming from the footpod? e.g. leave the watch on a table, shake the footpod and check the cadence field on the watch.
  • I noticed that the serial number displayed on the watch DOES NOT match the serial number on the back of the sensor. So either your watch receives a different footpod (easy to check by walking with the footpod and observing cadence) or someone put an ANT+ footpod into a case meant for a BLE variant.
  • The displayed id looks like an ANT id to me. When I connect a bt food pod to my 935 it shows a mac address as the id.

I disabled BT-connection and it works! It's definitely sending over ANT+. Have been using it a year with my phone (via BT_smart).

THis is what DC-Rainmaker suggested. Make sure whether it's an ANT+ ID or a BT_smart GUID!

Seems like it's Dual (i can also use it with my phone via BT).

Asked DC-RAINMAKER about it: "those sensors are all manufactured by DYNASTREAM (Garmin) right?"

"Indeed, they are (well, were) manufactured by Dynastream.

Now it’s funny you say this. I can’t remember where/when, but about a year ago someone saw a very similar thing on some other unit. A BT footpod was showing up on their Garmin paired. Neither of us could ever figure it out.

My bet is that at some point Adidas switched to dual chipsets, and never bothered updating the case. Hence…dual. ;)"

    :) case closed!
