Pace and step alerts, how to edit?

I've created running workouts in Garmin Connect and uploaded them to my watch (735XT).
All workouts have different steps and each step has a certain target pace. I get an alert every time I'm off pace which is a bit useless on a treadmill. I also get an alert when I have to do the next step which on the 405 was a countdown, but that's not the case for the 735.

Is there a way to edit these alerts?

  • If you set a target pace for a step in a custom workout you transfer to and execute on the FR735XT, it is assumed that you want the device to do what it can to keep you to the target pace and duration, by both informing you upfront visually at the start of the workout step, and alerting you throughout the step whenever you are off the target pace you set for yourself (and ask the watch to monitor). It's not meant to just be a ‘note to self’.

    However, you can disable tones and/or vibration for alerts if you don't want your consciousness to be intruded upon while in the middle of a workout step (but that also applies to when you get to the end of a step and/or the start of another step).

    Alternatively, you can create a different custom workout for treadmill running, with the same steps but no target pace. No ‘note to self’ about the pace, and you'll be able to vary it as much as you want without the watch heckling you.

    You cannot set a countdown for workout steps on the FR230/235/630/735XT, as far as I'm aware. There is a special custom workout data screen that has a data field to tell you how much longer (in terms of either distance or duration) there is to go for the current workout step, if you want to keep an eye on it. You only need to be alerted when it's time to start the next step and do something different; the alerts are not designed to help you plan ahead or give you advance knowledge (which you get by reviewing the workout, in full before you start) or advance notice.
