735XT not recognized by USB after update to 7.20

NO connection in USB port (doesn't get recognized on PC), but charges. When I disconnect it remains frozen on the battery loading screen. Have to reset by 20 seconds on powerbutton.
Until yesterday with 7.10 everything worked fine.
  • I had to factory reset my watch to resolve the messed up activity profiles, you might need to do the same to fix the usb (for me that part remained working)

Same here. Tried both OSx and Windows 10 and neither recognized or mounted the 735Xt as it normally had in teh past.

I accidentally updated but have had no issues. Watch mounts just fine on my MacBook Pro as it's always done.

I found a way to make it work. I have to switch off the watch. Then connect it and as it turns on, on its own, it connects correctly.
Need an urgent bugfix for that.
  • no problem with USB connection over here. in fact i have had zero problems with v7.20 so far

Thanks for the trick, worked for me as well. I addition after doing this once, it seems the 735 now connects properly and when I disconnect it no longer requires a reset. This trick fixed it for me!
  • almost the same issue

Similar issue after upgrade to 7.2.
My device was continuing to show charge screen after disconnecting USB cable for 15 min then everything did look OK, but any activity would not start, PC did not recognize the device anymore once connected back to USB cable. I had to reset device. Now I hope it will work.
  • Having same issue

I'm having the same issue on my MacBook Air (latest version of Mac OS) and watch is up to date with 7.20. I plug it into the USB on my computer, it doesn't find it. Every now and then it will, but lately it hasn't recognized it. It charges, I disconnect and stays on charging 100% battery screen. I wait and wait but no change so I finally do a reset by holding power button down until it turns off only for it to restart with the wrong time. I sync with phone, hoping it would update the time, it syncs but doesn't update the time so I have to go into settings and change it manually. It syncs fine with my iPhone 5S but my MacBook Air and Garmin Express won't even see it anymore! Super frustrating.

@ERICAMELTON, There are a couple of FAQ links that may assist you with getting your Forerunner recognized by your computer. This FAQ is Forerunner specific, and this FAQ is Mac specific. The device not being recognized by the computer after an update is not an issue that we have been able to recreate and something that we would like to look at further. If the FAQs do not resolve the issue please reach out to Product Support (Contact and Expert at the bottom of the page) so that this can be investigated further.

Also, if the time on your device is not correct after you hard reset the unit, you will need to acquire a GPS signal in order to set the time. When the device is set to Automatic the time will come from GPS rather than the time on your phone.
  • I have had the same issue since 7.20. The 735 isn't recognized as even attached by two Macs and a PC. I bought a brand new cable (Garmin original) and it also did not work. The watch charges OK, just won't sync.

Until today. I tried the turn it off and connect it suggestion from above. It worked. As the watch started up it synced and Garmin Express now shows the watch attached.

Clearly Garmin you have a major bug in the update.

Now a new issue has shown up. My running dynamics have vanished from Connect. They were OK until May 6th, but all my runs since do not have the ground contact etc. Only the cadence is still showing.
