read text messages?

On my 735xt incoming e-mails and Whatsapp messages are shown complete with sender and contents.
For SMS text messages however I only get a notification that a massage has come in, but I'm not able to read it on my watch.
Is this normal? Does it depend on the phone? (I use a Samsung S4 mini) Or is there a setting somewhere I overlooked?
  • You should be able to click and read the whole thing.
But a S4 is pretty old now (with an older version of ANdroid) so its possible there is some kind of incompatibility.
Maybe try unchecking and rechecking the permissions within garin connect app for text messages and see if you get prompted for any permissions?

Are you using the factory-installed Messages app for SMS, or some other messaging app particular to your mobile service provider?

Thanks for your feedback. I know it's supposed to show the whole message now.
And for reminding me I'm getting old...still statisfied with my S4... the world is changing tooo fast for me (or my wallet) ;)
I turned the sms option off and on again in Garmin Connect... but no prompts for any permissions.
I'll see what happens on the next incoming text message (more proof I'm getting old... who uses text message in the whats app era anymore ;) )

Just the standard Samsung app, called messages. You think third part app might solve things? Any suggestions for a good one?

Actually, no, I don't. I've never had issues with notifications generated by the Messages app on my Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, but I recall seeing others reporting issues, and it turned out they were using an app that is particular to Verizon.

From what you descibed in the original post there way be a phone setting that needs to be adjusted for your messaging app. This FAQ has some instructions to help ensure that the full message is displayed on the device and not just the notification that the message appears.

If this does not work for your phone you may reach out to Product Support to see if there is anything else that they could look at with you prior to reaching out to the phone manufacturer for further assistance.

Thanks so much, the faq solved my issue!
I had to turn on 'preview' in the sms settings on my phone.
Now I see the sender ans contents of the incoming text messages.
