Move settings from one 735 to another one

Hi,

The glass on my 735XT was broken and I received a new one.
I have made a copy of all files on the old one.
Is it only to move the files to the new watch or should I skip any?

Are there any description of what all dirs and the content within the dirs are somewhere?

BR
Pierre
  • To be honest I'd skip copying files and just set it up from scratch. You'll need to re-add sensors to it anyway and it needs to recalculate VO2Max and replication your settings should only take 5 minutes

  • Most settings and data can be restored by moving the respective .FIT files (SETTINGS.FIT, contents of SPORTS/, etc.) to the NEWFILES/ folder on your new watch. They will then be placed into the correct location automatically. Don't know if there's a list of directories, but most of what you need should be self-explanatory anyway. The last time I did a reset of my watch (wasn't a new one though), even VO2max and sensors were there again, although I had expected the opposite after browsing several websites on that topic. Weekly and monthly totals are one of the few things you won't be able to restore.
  • Adding sensors and garmin IQ apps is no problem.
It is more about different profiles and the related data fields.
That will take a lot of time because of me have spent time to get them as good as possible.
  • I think profile and data field settings are saved in the SPORTS directory, so you should easily be able to restore those.
  • If it's anything like the 920XT, then do the following:

    • Copy SETTINGS.FIT from SETTINGS to NEWFILES - eject the watch and allow it to update.
    • Delete any of the default activities or activities on the watch that you have previously altered.
    • With the device back in the cradle and mounted, copy any .FIT files from the SPORTS folder to NEWFILES. - eject and allow to update.
    • With the device back in the cradle and mounted, copy any .FIT files from the MLTISPORT folder to NEWFILES. - eject and allow to update.
    • Do the same with any COURSES or WORKOUTS you want to keep.

I do it this way because I have found the 920 'chokes' if you try to do it all at once. It also doesn't like having too many activities so had to delete first. Pays to keep a full backup of the mounted Garmin drive somewhere handy. I refresh my backup automatically, every time I put my Garmin in to the cradle connected to my computer.

One the 920, all sensors are added back.
  • Thanks, will try tomorrow.
  • Sorry to say that the data fields didn´t work if they were within the settings part.

They will be the ones in the SPORTS folder

They will be the ones in the SPORTS folder

Tried all above advice but didn´t work.
I will do it manually tonight :(
  • You'll likely have a problem with some Connect IQ Apps if you just copy those from one watch to another. (the things in \garmin\apps), and lose things like any private data they use. I'd just re-install those myself.
