Upgrading to fenix 5/5S

Curious if any 735XT owners are considering upgrading to the fenix 5/5S. I tried a fenix 3HR prior to the 735XT, but found it too large for daily wear. From the photos I'm seeing, it seems like the 5 – and especially the 5S – are a nice size reduction in the fenix.
  • I bought my 735xt about 3 weeks ago and when I was buying it I thought about holding off to get a F5 or F5s. The one thing that stopped me was the extra $150 before tax compared to the 735xt. As much as I thought about it I just could not justify the extra $$ for what I am using my watch for and could put that $$ towards something else. The longest distance I will be doing is a 1/2 iron which the battery will last that long and I am running a marathon this year as well. The other thing I like about the 735xt is the weight and the looks. The F5 and I am sure anyone that gets it will be happy.

Meh, can't really justify spending 600 euros on what in the end really doesn't seem to be that much of an upgrade.

Better batterylife (but the 735xt is more then enough already) but thicker and heavier. Perhaps if the OHR has improved and the display used is nicer it miiiiiiight become more interesting for me but other then that.

Was kinda interested in the maps possibilities but that's only with the 5X which sets you back 900 euros and is way too big for me (as well as maps being a tricky thing for these watches).

So right now I say nope, but hey... never say never.
  • I think your title is wrong, as a runner I would consider it to be a downgrade to have to wear a watch that's heavier without offering any additional features I now miss
  • For sure I'm upgrading.

My reasons are the F5 (or F5s) looks so much more like a real watch. Especially when added a leather band. Also for all the new metrics. That sounds cool too.

Currently I'm debating whether I will go for a F5 or F5s. Time will tell...
  • I am almost definitely going to ove the the fenix 5. Just waiting for them to ship to see what the feedback is on GPS accuracy and everything else before pulling the trigger. I was one of the first to get the fenix 3 and the first 6 months were not a great experience, so won't be doing that again.

Regarding size, the f3 was a little big for me, but the weight was not noticeable after wearing it a while. F5 looks like perfect size for me, about the same as the 735 roughly, but will also look at the 5s when they are shipping to see if I like that better.
  • CHIMPWARE - They're shipping! Check the Fenix5/5s forum! :)
  • Size-Size-Size. Size and weight in watches does matter and I would not choose to wear something as big and heavy as the F5 as a daily running watch. The 735xt disappears on your wrist.

If they decide to add more features on a 735xt formfactor (or smaller/lighter) and call it 835 or whatnot, yes I would consider it.
  • Yeah you could argue whether should consider trading my racing flats for something more expensive and heavier because it looks nicer!

But seriously, looks aside, what actual features are you missing from the 735 that you might want in one of the Fenix 5 watches?
  • actual features
Stainless steel bezels and sapphire glass screens for robustness, perhaps?
  • I love new gadgets and always have a look at what I'm missing. Not sure I want the weight, but I'd love the true altitude and all of the features natively that I need CIQ for now, ie Walk mode, timer, stopwatch, better native watch faces etc. Also the bigger display would be nice for my old eyes.
