How can I tell if the watch is receiving HR from wrist or from HRM?

I have an HRM-Run monitor. I have paired it successfully to my watch. And I know it is transmitting heart rate because an ANT stick I have in my computer receives it and shows heart rate. But when I run with the strap on, I get only the heart rate, any of the Running Dynamics fields I try and display all just show a blank. Which makes me think it is just getting the HR from the wrist and not getting data from the strap. Is there any icon or anything on the watch that will denote which one it is showing the heart rate from?
  • You can just look at the back of the watch and see if the optical heart rate lights are on. If picking up off of the HRM they should be off. Also, you can go into sensors in the menu and confirm that your HRM is connected.
  • If your HRM strap is connected then it overrides the optical HR. If you have paired a HRM strap and it doesn't connect then it will switch to the optical

I have been into Sensors and Accessories and it shows the HRM as being connected. Gives the serial number or whatever it is there on the screen. So I know it has been paired properly. But when I run with it, still nothing in the Run Dynamics screens.

As far as looking for the green lights, I can't seem them when I am wearing the watch. So I still can't tell where it is getting the HR from. Is there no icon or any indicator while an activity is actually going on that will specifically tell you if it is reading HR from the wrist or from the HRM-Run?
  • There's no icon. Try disabling the optical to see if you then get running dynamics. I reckon it could be a problem with the HRM. I use a HRM-Tri with the 735 and get running dynamics even with the optical still on.

just check the HRM is the right way up as well

  • I think you can turn the wrist monitor off, and it will still pair to a strap.
But as said above, if the lights aren't on its using the strap.

As to running dynamics is it deffo the hrm-run and not a normal strap? Is it one of.the new red ones?
    Mine just 'worked'

So unless it's faulty or didn't pair properly. In status what does it show for model number etc?
  • Do you get any RD metrics when you upload to GC?

Is the strap the right way up? The running man needs to have his head at the top.
