Annoying - Updating....

Why has Garmin designed the 735 to Update (whatever that means) while an Activity is running when it comes near your phone. I was runnig a track workout the other day and had my phone on the ground near the start and when I completed my interval and went to hit the Lap button, I looked at my watch to see "Updating...." and missed the interval Lap because of it and in addition it caused a disconnect of my BSX Insight and locked it up so I did not get any useful SMO2 data either due to this.

Why in the world would the watch be syncing, or updating anything while an activity is running????? I know I can turn off BT, which I did at that point, but I should not have to do that.

This is an issue that is being address in a software update in the very near future so that this does not occur. Reconnecting with Bluetooth during an activity should not interupt the workout or broadcast mode. We do apologize for any inconvenience in the meantime.

thanks for this info. i hope this is addressed soon as i too have encountered this problem.

I've had this happen not just within an activity, but navigating through the menus/widgets on the watch. And sometimes if the connection to my phone is weak my watch will just restart.

I do not have a time frame, but I do know that this should be addressed in the next software update for the Forerunner 735XT.

Did this issue ever get addressed? Several times recently, my 735XT has decided to do some sort of update (and is stuck on "Updating...") during a run. Device is effectively frozen and remains so until I turn Bluetooth off on my iPhone. Even then, the 735XT takes ages to recover and get back to the activity.

Of course, turning Bluetooth off, means that LiveTrack/Strava Beacon no longer works, which is a pretty essential feature at the moment. Turning it on again kicks off the "Updating..." once more.

Doesn't make any sense for the device to be trying to update during an activity!
