Heart rate question (device or me)

Hi guys,

My 735xt has been brilliant and i have been using the built in HRM rather than the strap. Resting heart rate around 40 bpm and so far I have maxed out at 170 bpm during a sprint finish. (eye balls were popping out)

HR has been very consistent until today. I did a 2km warm up and looking back at my HR in garmin it looks about right. about 129bpm avg.

I had planned to do the bleep test as well to gauge my fitness and also to find my true max HR.

Not long after I started the test my HR was over 180bpm and as i was glancing down on occasion it was over 200bpm. The effort I was putting in did not reflect this at all. (the watch gave me a condition score of -20 so something wasn't right)

Does the wrist HRM have an issue with this type of work out where I am running back and forth?

Has anybody else had trouble like this. The watch felt tight enough and was fine on the warm run prior to this.

Lastly could this be that my body is struggling in some way from over training although I took yesterday off and feel quite good.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul
  • Well, it isn't too great with intervals for me (but that's more a matter of not adjusting quickly... or at all ;) ). Every now and then it has it's quirks but yeah, I think it performs best for more steady runs and not high intensity ones.

Then again, also temperature can be an issue (mainly very cold, freezing, temps) and it might just be a one time thing...

    Hr issue

hi - I've been experiencing erratic HR readings in the last week or so - have had to reset the watch which fixed it for one activity and then played up again.
I plugged the watch into the laptop yesterday and have downloaded the latest updates and reset the watch again.
    I'm hoping that's fixed it
