Inaccurate weather widget

Does anyone know where the Garmin Weather Widget sources it’s weather information from?

Looking at the weather on my watch, it doesn’t match either my iPhone’s weather app or the Met Office. This is to the extent that the app said that it was supposed to be raining tomorrow despite the fact that everything else indicated it would be sunny.

It is a useful widget to have in order to quickly check the weather, but it would be nice to know how accurate it is. In an ideal world I’d be able to select the source, but I realistically don’t think that will happen.
  • In the end, the factory-installed Weather widget is just an app like any other weather app. If, say, the AccuWeather app on your phone does not give you reliable or meaningful weather updates, then you'll simply stop using it and look for a different app, instead of questioning where AccuWeather got its source data from, or trying to customise the data source(s) while continuing the use the app for its UI and features.

If the Weather widget doesn't work well for you, then it's time you looked for (or perhaps developed) another – and there are others in the Connect‑IQ store. The one I tried for a while sucked at least just as badly. However, as a user and a product owner, remember there is no promise that you'll be able to have at least one reliable, usable weather app on your ‘smart watch’; you can only choose from what others make available to you completely independently of your influence.

You make an excellent point, thanks for your thoughts. Is there any chance you could suggest a decent weather widget that you've had good experience with?
  • Sorry, these days I just allow The Weather Channel for Samsung on my phone to push ‘smart notifications’ containing weather info to my FR235. One advantage of that is I don't need the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Android open for the information to come through; the major disadvantage is that it only tells me the current temperature and weather, and doesn't give a forecast of highs and lows or what is to come.

That's a good option. I may well give that a go, thank you.
  • My "forecast" looks quite similar to weather.com

I am disappointed it says it will be 0 deg C tonight, BBC says 2 but really I was hoping to see 21 deg C or so :)

Oh well looks like tights and gloves weather for running.
