Using the drills functionality when swimming

Good evening all,
Does anyone have a good source of info on using the drills function when pool swimming with the 735? At the moment, i'm going along the lines of:

Start/stop : start the session
Lap: pause for a breather
Lap: get going again
-repeat-
Start/stop : finish the session

But i see a 'drills' function in there, with no mention of it in the manual. Quite a few chats about it on the forum, but often pointing to 'further reading' that end up being dead links. Basically, i'd like to do a session along the lines of: swim a few laps, do a few drills, swim a few more laps, do a few more drills, swim a bit more and then done. But i'd like it all recorded, of course.
Could someone point me to a helpful resource, or outline what combinations of buttons are needed to achieve this?
Cheers muchly,
John
  • Indeed, the FR735XT manual lacks any information about the swimming drill log. Luckily it's quite simple.

First you need to make sure that drill log page is enabled in Pool Swimming activity data screen settings. Once it's enabled, the drill log page becomes one of the available data screen during pool swimming. So during swimming activity scroll down to the drill log page. Press "start" button to start the drill. At the end of drill press the "back" button to stop the drill log. Enter the distance covered during the drill. Continue normal swimming or start another drill. That's how it works.
  • I know that your post is very old but I found it because I was looking for the same information. Then I found this video where the drill log feature is explained. If you know how it works I hope my post helps others. Cheers

  • Yes, I think people who feel their watch under/over counts lengths, this manual feature has additional use beyond just for kicking sets. I use it when I am in a crowded lane where I know I may get bogged down or need to pass someone, or the wall is too crowded to get a firm push off. It can also be useful for sprints, which sometimes don't get logged correctly. So manual input is sometimes very useful.
