VO2 Max, Bod Pod Body Composition

Hello, Let me start with my particulars. I'm 63 year old AA (African American with a quite a mix according Family Tree DNA testing) 71 inches tall weighing 166lbs (down from 247lbs 2 years ago). I started walking to get into better shape just over 2 years ago, joined Planet Fitness in Dec. 2014 to get in walking and strength training. In around April of this year I started light jogging and have picked it up a notch to jogging 3-5 times a week (averaging 15-30 miles a week). I did a Pod Pod (body composition) and VO2 Max at a local university here in the states (CT) and the results are interesting. My Withings Body Cardio scale set up in athlete mode says body fat % is around 8%, in regular mode it's around 13%. The Bod Pod put me at 18.9% which according to research my body fat is acceptable and my health is not compromised by this amount of body fat. So the scale will be set to regular mode. Also for the Withings scale it measured my weight quite accurately based on my weight in the schools lab this morning. 166.9 lbs for the Withings and 166.889 for the lab scale.

Doing the VO2 Max was kind of challenging. I had calculated my max HR to around 164 bpm doing a field test and various calculators on the internet. The test this morning had me max out at 165 bpm so I've been training in my proper heart rate zones for all practical purposes. Now the VO2 Max, my Garmin 735xt has me at 42 ml/kg/min, Shapesense has me in the upper 40's if I use my actual resting heart rate. I have a Polar H7 hrm and using the Polar Beat app I get 42 ml/kg/min. The test this morning gave a VO2 Max of 44.9 ml/kg/min which is pretty good for someone my age. I guess I can say I've actually exceeded my expectations/goals compared to where I was just over 2 years ago that was paying someone to cut the grass on my smallish property. Also of note the lab this morning actually use the Polar H7 in their testing but I've also read elsewhere the the H7 has been proven to be quite accurate. I also have the Scosche and Whahoo Tickr. The Scosche this morning had me maxing out at 172 but I think that was just a spike and I've not checked my graphs to see. Also I think the calculator that TIMGROSE put together (thanks Tim for all your hard work and effort) based on some calculations from Runnersworld had me a little on the high side but that's based on a number of variables which I'm sure if I play with the numbers I can get close. Very interesting morning to say the least. Got go and get ready for my off day walk.
