Forerunner 735 and Concept2 Indoor Rower

Greetings,

I just received the 735XT and use it for trail running but I alos use the Concept2 Indoor Rower. It seems taht I can get my heart rate to sync with the rower or my Android but I am not having much luck. The ErgData APP on my Android device will see the 735 and actually says "connected" but then the connection is gone. The settings on the 735 are to broadcast the heart rate. I have also tried Bluetooth connection but to no avail.

As for the rower, I have tried to connect to that too. There is a setting for accepting ANT+ devices and even some of the Garmin watches are listed, but not the 735. The Concept2 web site lists the 735 as one of the devices to connect.

This link shows connection for the FR60, FR70, FR210, FR310XT, FR610, FR910

There is a reference though that shows 86 different compatible devices of which the 735 is one.

Thank you for your thoughts in advance.

Do you have "Broadcast Heart Rate" set to "auto"?

Search for your HR belt from the settings on the PM5. This will display your heart rate on the PM

The heart rate is set to auto and it does not connect. The PM5 does not see the FR735XT at all. The Ergdata APP will see the watch, then not and then see it again. The cycle repeats. It does not connect.

I tried to connect to the Ergdata APP on my Android vie Bluetooth but that did not work.

The PM5 on the COncept2 rower does not wee the watch at all.

The FR735XT does not need the belt so I do not wear one.
  • Don't think this is going to work unfortunately - well to get the Concept 2 data on the 735.

All those obsolete devices mentioned above supported "Fitness Equipment" but for some reason all the latest Forerunners no longer do so.

That said sounds like you should be able to pair an ANT HR strap to it and the broadcasted HR should act like one.

My wrist or strap HR broadcasts with no issues to the concept2 PM5.

Take a look at this thread. Lots of useful discussion on getting data out of a garmin watch. I just got a 735 but have been using my 610 for a few years now. Would love to be able to use the 735 but I'm not holding my breath. I wear a strap for hrm so I don't care about the optical hrm, but really would love all of the PM5 data in garmin connect.

I am adding this note in follow up.
I bought a microusb connector for my Galaxy S7 and just use a direct connection with the Concept2 Rower. This route works every time and there is no issue.
The heart rate is a different issue.
I am able to eventually connect the HR to the COncept2 which is simultaneously picked up by the S7. No problems.

My observation is that sometimes the HR drops while I am rowing which I think is artefact. Sometimes the HR just disappears and then reconnects eventually. Sometimes the HR is perfect and tracks well.

I think it is just difficult with the rowing motion for the FR735XT to pickup the signal for the HR. I have not tried a chest strap.

It is not essential as my goal is to have the data recorded which is cared for by the direct connection, but having the HR is an added bonus.
