Intensity minutes.

Hey.

Just back from a hard swim session and noticed it didn't count towards my weekly intensity minutes. I get it uses your heart rate or steps to calculate this but think it's a bit harsh if I do alot of swimming.

Any ideas if u can get round this!!

Many thanks

Rob.
  • You can get HR if you use the HRM-Swim so that maybe a way round this.

Cheers for that but I didn't want to have to buy the heart strap.

    intensity minutes

    Hi there

I don't think its the swim, I did one hour's circuit training followed by an hour's running training, the watch recorded 8,000 odd steps, but not one intensity minute!!!

Anyone else having the same problem?

Garmin help desk told me to alter my heart rate settings. But I bought the watch with the aim of its gathering the data, (i.e. if I have it right, the watch is supposed to be an activity tracker?) and then it sets my heart zones according to my output, so I can eventually get some kind of v02max.

Not that I think it will be very accurate, but some kind of figure should allow me to monitor improvement?

What does anybody else think? Is anyone else struggling with this?

Is it fair that your are sold a watch that is supposed to be an activity tracker as I understand it:

' Thanks to a smaller form and comfortable band, the 735XT is the ideal watch to get you through your workout and your workday. It even doubles as an activity tracker to count your steps, calories and sleep. Get the data you need to beat yesterday.'[/I]

and are then told by Garmin that in time it will get better. Surely it should work correctly from day one?

  • Did you have HR in your circuit training?

I can see why you don't get intensity minutes for swimming as, without HR, there is no real way of inferring the intensity.
  • No intensity minutes with HRM-Swim...

I am also having an issue the issue where intensity minutes are not being recorded even with the HRM-Swim. I have asked Garmin about accumulating intensity minutes with the HRM-Swim. Awaiting an answer. Anyone able to do this?

    No mintues with a hrm-swim

I discovered the same issue today for the first time. I swam for 30 minutes on Tuesday with my HRM-SWIM synced to my Fenix 3 HR and it counted my intensity minutes. However, today, I swam for 30 minutes and covered more ground and at a significantly faster pace (also with my synced HRM-SWIM) and it failed to track or count a single intensity minute. Now I am confused. My heart rate information shows up clearly on my downloaded data so I know that the HRM tracked my heart rate as it should. Kinda sucks when 88% of your workout was in Zone 4 and you don't get credit for it.

I think intensity minutes count only for steps. Walking and running.

It counted my swim on Tuesday with my HRM-SWIM and that was the only workout I did that day. Today, however, my heart rate data was recorded accurately with my HRM-SWIM, but no credit for intensity minutes.

Later in the day, I went Kayaking and used the Stand Up Paddleboard feature, and it credited me for intensity minutes. Seems like there maybe an issue with the SWIM feature on an external HRM, or I did something wrong.

You get no intensity minutes from swims. I also have an HRM swim and it doesn't record it.

You get no steps for swims either. The other day I did a 3 hour swim in the pool... spend a full hour in zone 2, a full hour in zone 3, and 15 minutes in zone four. Got 900 steps for all of that. Also told me I only burned 400 calories. Yet it told me I swam 4.5 miles because my pool is only 15 yards, but Garmin will only measure 18 yard pools... so I can't even get an accurate swim distance.

There's no metrics here, you're just throwing darts at a wall if you're swimming with a Garmin product.

To prove just how "dumb" this smart watch is, I walked in a circle in my living room for 10 minutes, get the same steps as that 3 hour swim, burned 90 calories, and picked up several intensity minutes.

I bought a Forerunner 735 XT because it was advertised and reviewed on all these websites as a SWIMMER'S watch. But it's not.

But it is not. There is nothing about Garmin that is swim friendly. Garmin makes runner's watches that just happen to be waterpoof.
  • On your profile, check your Activity Level Setting. If it's set to a high level, you will find it harder to gain IMs. Lower the level and let me know if you see your IMs begin to increase.
