Walking profile

Hey.

Just a quick one with regards to a walking profile on the 735. On the Garmin connect app there is a walking profile in the activity menu but there doesn't seem to be one on the watch.

I've added a hiking profile but this doesn't add the info to the walking profile on the app. I know it's only minor but as I've added the hiking profile I have to go into all activities on the app and find the walk I've done rather having them all under one walking profile.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

Rob.
  • There is no native "Walk" activity profile option - "Hike" is the nearest as you found. Not sure why - numerous people have mentioned this.

However if you use this CIQ app "Hike 2" https://apps.garmin.com/en-GB/apps/116a5b59-29ae-4397-a70e-907d7e5f8e44 it does allow you to set it up so if you "Walk" it gets mapped directly to a "Walk" in GC. Jim, the author of that, is a regular in this forum too.
  • Thanks for the reference Tim!

When I started Hike, it was just for hiking, but soon after the 23x/630 came out, people were looking for a way to record walking as walking, so I added the option where you could select either hiking or walking and make it your default recording type. Hike2 is really "hike+", in that it does what Hike does, but also other things I could add with having more memory and other features that were available on the va-hr and 735, such as displaying the hardware compass, a graph of your heartrate, the ability to save and re-use your waypoints, etc. That's why Hike is for devices like the 23x/630 and Hike2 for the 735.

With hike2, to switch between walking and hiking, before you start the recording, press "menu" (long press of "up" on the 735), and you can toggle walk/hike, and also toggle between a white and black background scheme.
  • Thanks for that.

Jim. Awesome app and links perfectly to GC.
